Summary
CSN is seeking a high-potential, detail-oriented, hands-on People & Culture Generalist to support the organization's continued growth and commitment to an exceptional employee experience. Reporting to the Director, People and Culture (P&C), this individual will be responsible for performance management processes, employee relations, compliance with labour laws, workplace policies and procedures, and employee health and well-being initiatives. The role will also support workforce planning and organizational development efforts.
With a strong emphasis on promoting company culture and values, the successful candidate will ensure CSN maintains a safe, compliant, inclusive, and engaging work environment. This individual must be flexible, innovative, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while working closely with Licensees, managers, and internal stakeholders to enhance the overall employee experience across the network.
Performance Management:
Accurately and efficiently conduct the performance evaluation process across the network to ensure consistency, fairness, and alignment with organizational goals.
Coordinate the administration of merit increases, short-term incentive programs (STIP), and rewards programs, ensuring transparency and effectiveness.
Provide coaching and resources to Licensee owners and managers to strengthen performance management capabilities across all locations.
Employee Relations and Engagement:
Serve as a trusted resource for Corporate management, Corporate Store(s) management, as well as Licensee owners and managers in handling employee relations issues, providing guidance to ensure fair and consistent outcomes.
Support employee engagement initiatives that build a positive workplace culture and foster employee satisfaction.
Promote CSN’s core values through communication, training, and everyday interactions across the organization.
Compliance and Legal:
Monitor all employment practices to ensure CSN adheres to applicable federal, provincial, and local employment legislation.
Support the management of workplace health and safety programs, including compliance with OSHA, WHMIS, and other regulatory requirements.
Provide guidance on sensitive employment matters, including terminations, leaves of absence, accommodation requests, and other legally sensitive processes.
Workplace Policies and Procedures:
Participate in the development, maintenance, and update of workplace policies and employee handbooks to reflect current legislation and industry best practices.
Promote and support workplace attendance, remote work and leave policies, and other operational standards.
Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, integrating inclusive practices into company programs, processes, and culture.
Health, Wellness, and Safety:
Support mental health and wellness initiatives, providing resources and promoting a culture of well-being across the network.
Manage disability and return-to-work programs, ensuring smooth transitions for employees recovering from injury or illness.
Proactively monitor and maintain a safe and healthy work environment, identifying risks and recommending improvements.
Workforce Planning and Organizational Development:
Collaborate with Licensees and internal stakeholders to support workforce planning and organizational development initiatives.
Provide input into organizational structure changes, helping align human resources with business goals and growth plans.
Support change management efforts, helping employees navigate and embrace organizational transformations.
Additional Responsibilities:
Build strong and trusting working relationships with members of the People & Culture team, CSN Staff, CSN Licensees, and key business stakeholders.
Collect, analyze, and report on human resources metrics to inform decision-making and improve HR strategies.
Assist with ad hoc special projects as needed.
3-year diploma/degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and progressive work experience will be considered.
Minimum of 2 years' experience in a People & Culture or Human Resources generalist role.
Solid understanding of human resources practices and labour legislation.
Familiarity with performance management frameworks and employee relations best practices.
Experience managing workplace health and safety programs (OSHA, WHMIS, etc.).
Strong communication and facilitation skills.
CHRP designation (or working toward it) is an asset.
Work Environment and Requirements
Ability to attend the Oakville, Ontario office 2-3 times a week (Hybrid)
Open concept office environment.
Able to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
Travel Requirements
Occasional travel may be required, including overnight stays.
