Job Brief
To design pneumatic and fluid power systems and schematics for automated assembly equipment using research techniques, combined with outside sources of information, to create and verify the design.
Responsibilities
· Study quotation and customer specifications to determine the project requirements
· Review machine concept, function and safety intent with Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, Controls and Mechanical Developers
· Establish priorities by collaborating with Project Management and Project Team Leads as required
· Design Fluid Power systems for projects
Apply fluid power industry design standards to meet safety according to the applicable standards (CSA-Z142 Press Safety, CSA-Z432 Machine Safeguarding, CSA-Z434 Industrial Robots and Robot Systems)
Design Air Prep Assemblies according to system size and requirements
Confirm that proper control of circuits has been provided, ie: flow controls, P.O. check valves, exhaust / block center valves etc.,
Verify required design intent matches system architecture
Complete air consumption calculations on individual circuits, stations and entire systems as necessary
Review designs with Project Team Leads prior to release (Design/Mech/Elec).
Assist with valve bank placement in project Designs
Generate Fluid Power drawing packages
Generate a complete Bill of Materials (BOM) for purchased components
Assists downstream departments during the equipment build, observes and monitors how the build is progressing
Completes “As Built” drawing updates on machinery prior to shipping, reviews those changes with the other departments as necessary
Work with Technical Manual writer to ensure that proper drawings and documentation are available for project manuals prior to machine shipping
Understand Innovative Automation Inc.’s scheduling and budget requirements, and apply personal management skills to meet required time and material allowances
Communicate effectively with management, staff, and customers the status of current projects, project concerns, and possible solutions
Keep abreast of new technologies and research new processes and methodologies
Research and develop applications and use of products involved in a project. Research and development records are to be filed for future reference. Successes and failures to be recorded appropriately for the study of best practices
Create and maintain efficiency in the design process, including to help build and maintain the Fluid Power design library.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the department
Prioritize multiple projects utilizing time management with respect to all phases of a project
Prepare and present customer projects in a professional manner
Adhere to IAI’s ISO9001 quality policy and procedures
Participate in 5s activities as required
Occasional travel as required within North America
Relationship Management
· Work in conjunction with all Innovators in a respectful and inclusive manner
· Develop and maintain positive relationships with all existing and prospective customers and suppliers
Key Technical Skills and Knowledge
· Proficient in EPLAN with Fluid add on, AutoCAD LT, Edrawings
· MS Office Software (Word, Excel)
· Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing concepts
· Good understanding of pneumatics and fluid power engineering practices
· Working knowledge and understanding of the following Safety Codes
o CSA Z432_Safeguarding of Machinery
o CSA Z142_Power Press Operation
o CSA Z434_Robot Safety
Qualifications
· Minimum Diploma in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering or Equivalent Specialized Experience
· Minimum 5 Years’ Work Experience
