This hands-on role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to perform equipment operation, including running equipment (backhoe, forklift, and shunt truck), operating the scale house, and managing the overall safety, compliance, and efficiency of the landfill site. The ideal candidate will be proactive, safety-conscious, and capable of both supervising staff and performing operational duties as needed. Key Responsibilities: Supervisory Duties: Oversee daily site operations to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant landfill activities. Supervise and coordinate the work of landfill laborers, equipment operators, and scale operators. Ensure adherence to local, provincial, and federal environmental and safety regulations. Monitor site traffic flow and enforce disposal procedures. Conduct regular site inspections to identify and resolve issues proactively. Maintain detailed records of daily operations, incidents, and equipment usage. Coordinate with upper management regarding staffing, training, and operational needs. Communicate with customers, haulers, and contractors in a professional manner. Equipment Operation: Operate a backhoe and other heavy equipment as needed for loading, compacting, or moving materials. Perform basic maintenance and daily inspections of equipment to ensure safe operation. Scale House Duties: Operate the truck scales to weigh incoming and outgoing loads accurately. Record weight data and issue tickets or receipts for billing and compliance purposes. Verify load contents to ensure only approved materials are accepted. Assist customers with directions and ensure proper documentation is collected. Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training a plus. 3+ years of experience in landfill, construction, or heavy equipment operations. Prior supervisory or crew leadership experience preferred. Valid driver’s license; CDL a plus. Proficient in operating heavy equipment, including backhoes and loaders. Familiarity with scale house operations and basic data entry. Knowledge of landfill regulations and environmental safety standards. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in all weather conditions and perform physical tasks. Working Conditions: Outdoor work environment with exposure to varying weather conditions. May require lifting up to 50 lbs and operating machinery for extended periods.
