Position Summary Our Liquids West group is actively seeking a dynamic Operations Manager. In this pivotal role, you will play a crucial part in our organization's success, reporting directly to the District Manager. As an integral member of our team, you will find a unique blend of responsibilities that encompass both office and facility-based activities. Key Accountabilities Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes of the organization and always acting in a safe manner. Management of facility staff by monitoring day-to-day activities Fostering open two-way communication with staff through daily tailgate meetings, and one on one information sharing or coaching. Overall business unit accountability for performance, safety and profitability. Actively involved in budget, operating metrics while identifying improvements in processes, procedures, and performance. Actively participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs. Perform regular facility walks to confirm adequate resources have been recognized for work execution including people, equipment and materials needs. Assist with annual budget preparation as well as monthly / quarterly updates for forecasting. Assist in capital expenditure request preparation, facility process modification, equipment replacement plan and upgrades. Ensure all safety and operational documentation is submitted daily and is clear, concise, and complete. Ensure business unit assets and inventory are maintained and accurate. Experience, Qualifications & Education Demonstrated commitment to Health & Safety & Environmental excellence High School diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education in science, engineering or trade credential is preferred Experience in fast pace recycling operation (e.g. materials recovery facility) is highly desirable Knowledge on inner workings of plastics or solvent recycling process Mechanically inclined and skillful in trouble shooting and problem solving Training or certification in Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma principles is considered an asset Knowledge and experience in environmental compliance with BCHWR would be an asset Able to collaborate and inspire people to achieve results Strong organizational skills are required. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Strong computers skills proficient in Microsoft 365 Strong customer relationship management with both internal and external clients. A willingness to take direction and work effectively in stressful situations. Ability to multitask and adapt to new working environments. Experience in managing multiple job tasks and people. Proven knowledge of business and management principles, strategic planning and leadership techniques. Excellent ability to listen, analyze and adapt to ever changing situations and schedule changes to meet the requirements of GFL customers. We thank you for your interest.
