About this opportunity
Our client provides specialty property, casualty and life reinsurance products through reinsurance intermediaries worldwide. The actuarial ILS team assists our client Partners platform in a wide variety of projects spanning from product development, financial modelling, software development, product valuations and servicing. As part of the team, the holder of this position is expected to contribute and, in some cases, lead these projects to help the platform be the best in class in the ILS industry.
This role will required use strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking abilities. These include deepening our understanding of our insurance risks and developing solutions to enhance reporting needs.
Responsibilities and duties:
Pricing, valuation and development of ILS and reinsurance products (e.g., ILW, Cat bonds)
Produce or update financial cash flows model for various portfolios (e.g. IRR, NAV, etc.)
Help producing quarterly information needed by the finance outwards and operations teams
Use actuarial and other analytical techniques to help the platform to deepen our understanding of insurance risks and understand drivers of change in various partners’ portfolios
Work with various stakeholders to develop specs for systems when needed, and work with software engineer to help development of such systems
Help with writing development specs for software engineers when prototypes are ready for larger deployment
Seek opportunities to automate reports and processes
Understand our business processes and make the connection with the data coming of the operational systems of the company
Support research projects, both actuarial and non-actuarial, including testing non-standard and innovative approaches for modelling risks and construction of portfolios of complex reinsurance risks
Build trusting relationship with all colleagues
Continuous development of technical knowledge of coding and analytical tool in use
What you’ll need
Associate or Fellow of a recognized actuarial association, with a bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, Engineering, or similar discipline with emphasis on quantitative analysis and methods
8+ years of experience with at least 3 in a similar role
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate experience P&C related products
Demonstrated analytical capabilities, including critical thinking with strong attention to detail
Ability to challenge and question the status-quo
Produce and interpret key metrics from property catastrophe models (e.g. OEP, AEP, Return period, PML, Occurrence pattern, etc.)
Understanding of database structures and logic, including database language such as SQL or Snowflake
Understanding use of data science and statistical tools / languages (e.g. R, Python)
Excellent written communication skills along with the ability to present results of analysis to a non-technical audience
Excellent interpersonal skills
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Highly organized with demonstrated experience in solving problems
Desire to learn and continuously develop both technical and non-technical skills
