SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reporting to the Supervisor, Vaccine Program – Public Health Services, perform courier and mail service for Public Health Services. Perform heavy lifting and moving.
GENERAL DUTIES
Operating a commercial vehicle, pick-up and deliver mail and supplies from Canada Post, offices and clinics within the City of Hamilton. Other ad hoc deliveries as required.
Postmark all outgoing mail for Canada Post with the correct amount of postage for mailing in Canada, USA, Registered and International mail.
Operate and maintain postage machine; replenish postage in postage machine; and maintain a daily log of postage costs for monthly distribution to program areas.
Transport specimens to City and Provincial labs for testing.
Properly collect, store and transport used syringes (sharps) and vaccines.
Collect and transport confidential papers and files in accordance with city policy and procedures.
Deliver equipment, supplies, educational materials, displays/presentation boards as requested.
Load, unload, deliver and store supplies. Complete inventory counts, as required.
Circle check of vehicle for safety and preventative maintenance issues and report collisions and incidents to Supervisor.
Work in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
Perform other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience in a mail room and as a courier in relation to duties listed above, normally acquired through a combination of education or related work experience.
Have the ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions for the operation of simple equipment or the completion of routine office functions such as filing; write and convey messages.
Must possess Class "G" Drivers' License valid in the Province of Ontario.
Must provide a clean driving record certificate.
Must be physically fit and physically capable of lifting heavy items.
Must have a pleasant, courteous manner and relate well to others.
NOTE: The successful candidate will be required to provide immunization records, which may include TB testing prior to the start of employment to meet the requirements of the Staff Immunization and Surveillance Policy and Procedure.
