This position is key in providing continuous support to the DND Satellite Communications Operations Centre (SOC), and as such, this job involves working (night/day) shift work within Department of Defence (DND) SOC.Typical DutiesLogging & processing of technical events and/or generation of incident reportsAssist clients with minor trouble shooting and modem configurationsProcessing Satellite Access Requests and validating & implementing Satellite Access AuthorizationsAnswering SOC Phone, E-Mail, and chat messagesCoordinate satellite access and de-access activities with DND Operational unitsProviding On-the-job training for new SOC OperatorsPerforming shift hand-over briefingsCollecting and processing post-mission informationProducing weekly/monthly reportsRemote Monitor and Control of Satellite Anchor StationsQualificationsRequires a two or three year College diploma as a Technologist and/or equivalent experience, specializing in electronics, telecommunicationsSpecialized or formal SATCOM technology training from a recognized institution and/or equivalent experience is desired Experience with operation and monitoring and control of SATCOM or related systemsAbility to communicate effectively with customer at a variety of authoritative levelsAbility to troubleshoot, using initiative and judgement, applying knowledge gained from previous experiencePossesses the flexibility and the ability for quick and knowledgeable response to technical and customer service related issuesGood appreciation of the customer's facility, methods of operation and sensitivitiesKnowledge and skill in using computer desktop applications (i.e. Microsoft Office tools)Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment.
