Are you the one we’re looking for?
We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Cook who demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness, and empowerment to our clients, families, and each other.
The Cook works as part of a team to deliver First Start Catering and Food Services. They are responsible for preparing and cooking meals according to established recipes and following procedures to maintain standards for safety, cleanliness, and quality.
This position is a unionized, part-time, permanent position, at 16 hours a week and a rate of pay of $19.41 an hour. We are seeking a candidate for Saturday and Sunday shifts, usually daytime, with the possibility of early mornings or evenings. Other weekday shifts may be occasionally required.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain a positive attitude and professional environment, following all Wesley policies, operational plans, and industry standards to meet the goals and standards of Wesley and our Food Services.
Prepare, cook, and serve meals, following directions from senior kitchen staff.
Follow diverse recipes, menu plans, and portion controls accurately.
Communicate with the team and maintain an organized workspace to ensure quality meals are prepared in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Participate in processes to maintain smooth kitchen operations, such as dishwashing, inventory tracking, restocking, and deep cleaning.
Provide friendly customer service to clients and customers, and assist with catered functions as required.
Participate in continuous improvement activities and implement changes based on feedback.
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and organizational development activities.
Maintain a safe working environment by following food safety, cleaning practices, and proper use/maintenance of equipment.
Other duties as required.
What you will bring:
High school graduate or GED diploma required.
Minimum 1 year of cooking experience in a high-volume kitchen or small/busy restaurant.
Strong knowledge of best practices and all applicable standards and legislation related to the food industry.
Safe Food Handlers Certificate and First Aid/CPR required.
Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
