Job Description As a Perception Developer Coop as part of Perception team at OTTO by Rockwell Automation, you will work on the development, testing and maintenance of the core robotics software that drives vehicles at sites all around the world. You will develop systems and working with cutting edge algorithms while ensuring stability of performance and quality. The Perception Team's primary responsibility is the development of the core robotics software responsible for environmental sensing and understanding on all of our vehicles. You will develop perception algorithms to handle the toughest challenges in localization and mapping. You will report to Manager, Perception and will be working Hybrid in Kitchener, ON. Primary responsibilities: Develop systems related to Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (SLAM) Contribute to concept development of SLAM and loop closure algorithms Support the deployment and testing of new tools, either online or offline Collecting and managing datasets related to specific robot performance goals Developing visualisation tools and metrics Stay up to the date with the latest developments from academia and industry The Essentials – You Will Have: Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in relevant field. Legal authorization to work in Canada is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening. The Preferred – You Might Also Have: Practical and theoretical knowledge in state estimation, SLAM, Pose Graph Optimization, Bundle Adjustment, loop closure, robotic perception. Experience working with sensors and sensor data such as 3D cameras, Lidar and IMUs. Strong software development skills in modern C++ and Python. Experience with automated software testing and continuous integration. Proficiency with Linux. Understanding of software development workflows, life cycles and development methodologies and tools. Hands-on experience with real world autonomous systems. Experience with testing through simulation. Experience with ROS, Gazebo, PCL and OpenCV. Experience with visualization tools in ROS and GUI design. Familiarity with linear algebra and nonlinear optimization techniques and libraries such as Ceres, GTSAM, g2o and Eigen. For this role, the Base Salary Compensation is from $18-32/hourly. Actual pay will be based on factors such as skills, education, and experience. The start date and end date of the coop term is September 3rd 2025 to December 19th 2025.
