Reporting to the Senior Manager, People & Culture the HR Business Partner/ Generalist will play a pivotal role in shaping our culture and driving our people strategy. You will be responsible for partnering with the business to create progressive employee experiences that drive engaged, collaborative and high performing teams. At Bird, we are stronger together. This role acts as both an employee champion and change agent to employees as well as a consultant to operational leaders related to employee relations. The Business Partner/Generalist will formulate partnerships across the P&C function to deliver value-added service to management and employees. As such, this role will require travel to site and office locations. This position can be based in our Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta office. What You Will Be Working On People Relations Engage with operations leaders on a regular basis in a proactive and collaborative approach. A true hands-on approach as well as the ability to successfully monitor the "pulse" of both office and site employees to ensure a high level of employee engagement. Develop a rapport with employees to promote trust and open communication. Alongside leadership, support employees with their career growth. Work with the Senior Manager, People & Culture (Industrial/MRO/Commercial Systems) to ensure strategic alignment across all areas within the human resources function. Address employee concerns, conduct investigations, and provide guidance on conflict resolution and corrective actions. Support with the performance appraisal processes, providing coaching and feedback to employees and managers. Develop a rapport with employees to promote trust and open communication, providing ongoing coaching to leaders in support of People & Culture processes and programs. Maintain current knowledge of federal and provincial laws and regulations to ensure the company remains committed to fair employment practices, in addition to determining how pending legislation can impact the human resources field and the employment landscape. Communicate and ensure understanding of applicable legislation, regulations, and organizational policies of managers and employees as needed. Consult with leaders regarding compensation-related matters. Analyze people data and metrics to identify trends and make data-driven decisions. In conjunction with the COE, identify training needs and coordinate learning and development programs to enhance employee skills and capabilities. People and Culture Program & Policy Support a consistent, one-team unified approach demonstrated through delivery of People & Culture principles, practices, and policies. Provide guidance and support on employee matters including, but not limited to, policy interpretation, respectful workplace concerns, and conflict in the workplace. Work with Senior Manager, People & Culture when needed, to support the resolution of challenging complaints. Understand the site level environment and ensure alignment with the business needs. Align and collaborate within the Divisional P&C operational groups regarding P&C strategy, planning, and initiatives. What We Are Looking For 3-5 years of experience working in a business partner capacity. Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or a relevant combination of education and experience in People & Culture. Previous experience working in Construction or Oil and Gas is considered an asset. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to handle multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment Experience dealing with sensitive, complex, and highly confidential employee situations (e.g., harassment, performance management, salary review and recommendations, etc.). Fluent knowledge of Federal and Provincial laws and legislation as it applies to employee related situations. Ability to travel to remote sites as needed (25% of the time). Ability to react quickly to changes, while keeping alignment with long-term direction. Motivated by complexity and challenges; energized by evolving, exciting environments. Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups. Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them. Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
