We are seeking an experienced hydrologist to provide technical expertise in analyzing, modelling and solving complex surface water management challenges. Reporting to the manager of Water Resources, the successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team of hydrogeologists and hydrologists working together to understand and mitigate operational and environmental risks related to surface water and groundwater management primarily at Suncor's mining assets. The role is primarily office-based with occasional travel to operating sites within Alberta. Minimum Requirements: 8 or more years of experience working with oil sands mining operations is preferred Bachelor’s degree in environmental or civil engineering, preference for master’s degree Experience in hydrology, hydraulics, and related surface water modelling and management skills Experience in surface water design, environmental impact assessments, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling Strong knowledge of oil sands regulatory environment Original and creative thinking skills for practical and economical solutions Excellent project management and collaboration skills to achieve the best results and deliver the most value APEGA P.Eng. required Responsibilities: Provide subject matter expertise on water management for mining operations Plan and deliver water related studies and investigations including hydrological assessments, hydro-climate monitoring, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, and water budget analysis Prepare and review engineering designs and reports related to water management infrastructure Design field monitoring programs, compile and assess and analyze data, present findings and provide recommendations in technical reports for submission to internal and external stakeholders. Prepare and update Operations, Surveillance and Maintenance Manuals for water management infrastructure Represent the Water Resources team in integrated project teams to identify key issues and risks regarding water management, water quantity, water quality and the aquatic environment Collaborate with internal partners or external vendors to plan and execute surface water projects Support project stewardship, funding, forecasting and budgeting Present to senior leaders and Operations leadership Contribute to innovation in modelling practices and the adoption of new technologies Location and other Key Detail: This is an office-based role with occasional travel to operating sites within Alberta. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 –6th Ave S.W.
