The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education is responsible for the administration of the public school system within the boundaries of Cape Breton and Victoria Counties, supporting approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools.

Required Qualifications
Valid Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate.
Minimum five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience at the P-3 level within the last seven (7) years. (Recent experience in Nova Scotia is preferred)
Training in Early Literacy Support is considered an asset.
A Master of Education in Literacy is considered an asset.

EARLY LITERACY INTERVENTIONIST
Job Summary
The Early Literacy Interventionist provides explicit, systematic Tier 2 instruction in foundational reading skills, including intensive phonics and phonemic awareness, to students in grades Primary through Two identified as requiring additional support. Using a structured literacy approach within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), the interventionist works collaboratively with classroom teachers and school teams to enhance student learning, track progress, and promote early literacy success across a family of schools.
This regional position is based at the posted school site, with primary responsibility for a designated family of schools. Depending on student data and needs, the interventionist may be assigned to additional schools or schools outside their family of schools. Assignments may vary annually based on regional requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver daily, structured, evidence-based small group literacy interventions focused on foundational reading skills.
Assess, identify, and monitor students requiring Tier 2 literacy intervention through screeners, diagnostic assessments and progress monitoring tools.
Consult with teachers, administration & other support staff using the TST process for student selection.
Collaborate with primary, grade one, and grade two classroom teachers to ensure consistency in instruction
Track student progress using data-driven methods & maintain accurate records.
Support transition and alignment of literacy instruction across classrooms within a family of schools.
Participate in professional learning to maintain up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction.

A strong understanding of early literacy development, specifically foundational reading skills (phonics and phonological awareness).
