Position Status: Full-time (40 hours/week), Permanent
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for a Custodian that will be responsible for daily cleaning duties within the organization’s Provincial Office and associated buildings or office locations within Edmonton. The Custodian will maintain cleanliness of various areas, ensuring a clean environment for employees and visitors. The successful candidate will be a friendly, positive individual who is detail oriented and has a passion for cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain cleanliness of all common areas, including, but not limited to, the reception area, office spaces, boardrooms, kitchens, and washrooms.
Perform daily cleaning duties, including, but not limited to:
Sweeping/mopping floors and vacuuming carpets in all areas.
Washing and sanitizing toilets, sinks, and mirrors within washrooms.
Unloading dishwashers, cleaning sinks, and completing fridge clean-outs once a week.
Disinfecting high touch areas, such as counters, doorknobs, etc.
Emptying trash cans and recycle bins.
Ensure glass surfaces (windows and mirrors) are cleaned regularly and are free of dirt and smudges.
Dust visible surfaces such as window ledges, vents, light fixtures, and counter tops.
Restock cleaning supplies throughout offices.
Follow safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous material as outlined by WHMIS guidelines.
Report maintenance concerns to Facilities and Building Operations leadership, if identified.
Other duties as required or assigned.
Skills & Competencies
Strong attention to detail.
Knowledge of hazardous materials handling, safety protocols, and compliance with WHMIS regulations.
Strong time management and organization skills, with the ability to manage deadlines.
Exceptional verbal, written, listening, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and within a team setting.
Flexible and adaptable to work in a diverse and fast paced environment.
Culturally sensitive and compassionate.
An understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture, government, people, and values is an asset.
Qualifications
High school diploma preferred.
Some experience with custodial duties and knowledge of cleaning processes. Two to three (2-3) years’ experience in a similar role.
WHIMS training is an asset.
Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check with renewal every two years is required.
Other Requirements
The position will be based in Edmonton, Alberta.
Travel to various office locations within Edmonton, as needed.
Ability to work Monday – Friday, 12 pm – 8pm, with flexibility to work weekends as required.
Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
