DESCRIPTION: A Registered Dietitian offers nutrition counseling to patients and families on the inpatient units as well as outpatient clinics. The Dietitian functions as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team and attends and participates in patient rounds and conferences with medical, nursing and health disciplines. The dietitian is a member of the CHEO Discipline of Dietitians and participates in the hospital wide on-call system. The initial assignment is to provide support to the Chronic Pain team, Children ’s Treatment Centre services and Interprofessional feeding team within Development and Rehabilitation. PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Provides initial and follow-up nutritional counseling to patients and families Plans the nutritional care for patients on therapeutic and modified diets, maintains current and accurate patient diet information records and provides instructions for patients and families concerning dietary aspects of treatment Provides pertinent nutrition information to individuals over the telephone as required. Extensive teaching of families and other health care professionals including dietetic interns. As a member of the Developmental and Rehabilitation team, work collaboratively with other health care professions to ensure integrated approach to care. Participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives Continuous learning to develop expertise in the specialties.
