The Lead, Clinical Research, reporting primarily to the Regional Medical Director, Executive Director, or Designate, provides leadership in the management of the promotion, support, and execution of clinical research activities for Fraser Health (FH). Acts as the communications link between all strategic partners and plays an active role in the strategic decision making in the development of new relationships. Identifies and pursues funding from funding agencies, commercial entities, potential collaborators, and donors. Manages and monitors research budgets and funding applications. Responsible for leading all aspects of the public awareness strategies internally and externally to proactively communicate and ensure greater awareness and support for research across FH.
Responsibilities
- Leads the promotion, management, support, and execution of clinical research activities for FH and works in close collaboration with researchers within FH and across other health authorities. Acts as the communications link between all strategic partners.
- Plays an active role in the strategic decision making in the development of new relationships with internal and external agencies by networking, partnering, collaborating, liaisoning, and connecting parties with similar research interests.
- Works with physicians and other researchers as a resource in developing strategies to identify funding opportunities and support for clinical research projects. Collects and engages expertise from across FH and other organizations.
- Stimulates business development initiatives related to clinical research by identifying and pursuing funding from funding agencies, commercial entities, donor contributions, scientific partnerships, and marketing opportunities.
- Engages participation from the scientific research community in the process of developing and promoting research for FH. Cultivates positive and responsive working relationships with members of the research community.
- Develops the communication and marketing strategies and oversees their implementation and ongoing administration. Develops policies and procedures which comply with FH's research-related policies and which govern the conduct of all research activities within FH.
- Develops, designs, and implements the evaluation processes and procedures and research protocols for research initiatives. Ensures that all research adheres to FH research-related policies.
- Drives all aspects of the public awareness strategies to proactively communicate and ensure greater public awareness and support for research activities across FH.
- Facilitates the organization and development of new research ideas from concept to protocol. Works with internal and external experts to develop ideas into a concept with a clear hypothesis and objectives.
- Prepares grant applications for new research initiatives and ensures that FH pre-award and post-award requirements are maintained.
- Manages the financial and physical resources and funding applications for budgets associated with clinical projects.
- Manages assigned employees including hiring, orientation, coordinating team activities, performance evaluation, coaching, training, approving leaves, and discipline and dismissal.
- Undertakes research to keep current with national and international research initiatives and opportunities.
- Represents the department on internal and external working groups, as applicable.
QualificationsEducation and ExperienceMaster's Degree in a related field plus five (5) years' recent, related experience in clinical research, or related project management work. Experience in research methodologies, study protocol requirements, including ethical conduct and standard operating procedures.
