The Transit Operations Team provides solutions for tracking trains and buses and managing customer information through applications like Trip Manager, TrainTrac, Rail Network, Schedule Manager, Location Manager, Bus Platform Manager. The team also oversees a 3rd party vendor providing managed services for Customer Information Management Systems. These applications provide critical capabilities to Metrolinx Transit Operations and Safety (Oakville Network Operating Centre (NOC), digital signage, online customer channels, bus and rail service planning.
What will I be doing?
Lead the preparation of detailed technical specifications for Transit Operations and Safety solutions to meet business, functional and non-functional requirements specified by Metrolinx departments;
Lead the technical analysis, program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation, with full technical knowledge of all phases of applications systems analysis and programming;
Lead the development and support of applications as needed, either individually or as part of a team, including the modification of existing programs to conform to system changes, or to make improvements in the existing programs;
Translate business needs to technical specifications, clearly communicate advanced technical topics with non-technical audiences and work effectively with support teams, user communities and application development groups;
Review all programs prior to implementation to verify consistency and conformance with established departmental guidelines, policies and practices, as well as industry standard guidelines;
Facilitate collaboration with other developers, product owners, product teams and designers to solve interesting and challenging problems through delivery of various analytics solutions;
Work with user departments to advise on, or resolve specific problems or make changes in systems applications, capabilities, alternative programming approaches, limitations, etc;
Provides subject matter expertise and consultation to senior management and officials on a range of issues, assists in interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data for evidence-based decision-making;
Mentor and provide knowledge of best practices to developers and analysts on software development.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
Completion of a degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent;
Demonstrated years of experience in Software development, as a Technical Lead or Senior Software Engineer;
Demonstrated years’ experience in Azure Cloud environment
Experience in developing and implementing small and large Enterprise applications using Microsoft Visual Studio, C#, ASP.NET MVC, .NET Framework/Core, Web API/REST, LINQ/Entity Framework with a strong ability to write code;
Experience in developing front end solution using HTML5, Javascript, React, CSS, REST API.
Experience using various ETL tools and related technologies (i.e. SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, Power BI);
Knowledge of source control systems (i.e. GitHub, JIRA) used throughout the SDLC;
Basic understanding of SignalR, Node.Js, RabbitMQ, REDIS, MongoDB technologies or similar, and working with real time data would be considered an asset;
Skilled in Agile Software Development process.
