Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. Our Finance – DCFO team is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst who will provide financially informed analytical support to assigned divisions; understand the financial and accounting impact of business processes (e.g. audit, legal, and reporting requirements) to evaluate current and future business activities and deliver timely and accurate accounting and operational excellence.
What will I be doing?
Provide finance forecasting and reports (e.g. variance and cost-recovery analysis, reconciliation of accounts), prepares entries, and takes corrective action.
Conduct financial analyses to support the business operations; provide expertise in analyzing and responding to inquiries and solving complex problems.
Create and apply reporting templates, financial models and automated processes to meet legal and corporate standards.
Assess the effects of new processes and projects from a finance perspective, (e.g. detecting defects, limitations, cost-benefit effects, and risks before implementation).
Provide internal customers, leaders and team members, with agreed upon reports and recommendations with accuracy and on deadline.
Provide expertise to support other financial professionals and activities (i.e. accountants, auditors, budget managers).
Provide expertise to non-finance business leaders, partners and committee members, help interpret financial data and provide commentary.
Support internal clients and provide analyses, reports, and financial tools.
Monitors and maps assigned business processes, with particular attention to control and reporting functions; recommends immediate and longer-term changes to ensure the integrity of data and financial information.
Recommends process and control improvements (e.g. automating technology or accounting practices) and provides clear standards of practice, protocols, and direction for internal and external partners.
Exercises due diligence in fiscal management and reporting, independently and as part of the finance team to reduce financial, legal, and reputational risks.
Provides recommendations to protect Metrolinx’s financial integrity; shows stewardship of resources with innovative options and attention to cost savings.
Advises other employees on topics related to the incumbent’s area of expertise.
Guides and mentors other financial professionals on the team; establishing policies and procedures for analysis and reporting and reviewing their work.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
Completion of a degree in Accounting, Finance, Math, Commerce, or related field or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
CPA Designation or being enrolled into the final stages of the CPA program is an asset.
Demonstrated progressive experience as a Senior Financial Analyst.
Experience with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Knowledge of business practices, financial analysis; understand the financial and accounting impact of business processes to evaluate all business activities (e.g. audit, legal, and reporting requirements).
MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Oracle.
Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop and present commentary, reports, and presentations on financial analysis to senior management to aid decision-making.
