Position Summary
Job Type: Full-time, permanent
Hours of Work: 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday
Reporting to: Construction Services Manager
Department: Public Works
The Construction Foreman coordinates operations and leads workers at construction sites. This position requires a solid understanding of Renovations and New Construction works. Leadership skills and extensive experience will be essential for decision making and directing the work of your team.
Key Responsibilities
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin policies, standards, practices and procedures as directed by the Director of Public Works & Construction Services Manager. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to Citizens, clients, employees and general matters of the Nation.
Coordinates Construction Services tasks according to priorities and plans.
Produces schedules and monitors attendance of crew.
Identifies and prevents Health & Safety risks at job sites.
Guarantees all safety precautions and quality standards are met.
Allocates general and daily responsibilities for the Construction team.
Supervises, leads, and trains workers and tradespeople.
Inspects work in progress and completed jobs for quality control.
Ensures personnel, materials, and other resources are adequate for each job.
Supervises the use of machinery and equipment.
Monitors project expenses and ensures they remain within budget.
Resolves and communicates problems when they arise.
Reports on progress to managers, engineers, etc.
Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Training, Education, Experience
Grade 12 education or equivalent.
Diploma in a skilled trade (e.g. Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing).
3-5 years’ experience working as a construction foreman.
1-2 years’ experience in a leadership position.
An equivalent combination of education, training and related experience may be considered.
In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment, and OHS guidelines.
Previous experience working with First Nations is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Understanding of how to prioritize safety when working on a construction site.
Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to share information with consistency and clarity.
Ability to effectively communicate in a respectful and professional manner with co-workers, other departments, contractors, and the public.
Ability to read drawings, plans, and blueprints.
Effective problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Proficiency with MS Office, with good working knowledge of Excel.
Intermediate computer skills.
Ability to follow policies and procedures.
Problem-solving abilities & forward thinking.
Good physical condition and stamina.
Class 5 or better Driver’s License with acceptable driver’s abstract.
Acceptable Police Information Check prior to employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily on construction sites (often outdoors, sometimes indoors) around tišos?m. This role involves frequently working and communicating with others. This role will be physically demanding at times while performing duties and involves regularly wearing all necessary PPE.
