Job Summary The position works closely with the Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk and Assurance, and the Director, Internal Assurance, in the Office of Enterprise Risk and Assurance (ERA). The Consultant, Data Analytics, contributes to building a best-in-class Internal Assurance program that is effectively integrated with Enterprise Risk Management (ERM). This position supports the broader ERA Digital Strategy, which envisions establishing ERA as a leader in data-informed risk and assurance, with the Consultant, Data Analytics playing a key role in leveraging advanced technologies to deliver operational excellence, strategic and financial insight, and value-driven collaboration. Organizational Status The position reports directly to the Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk and Assurance, and the Director, Internal Assurance, in the Office of Enterprise Risk and Assurance (ERA). Work Performed Effectively and efficiently supports Internal Assurance, ERM projects, and fraud risk management activities through data science, with a focus on handling large volumes of data and leveraging analytics, programming languages, and artificial intelligence to inform engagements and create efficient workflows, statistics, reports, and visualizations. Utilizes data science tools and techniques—such as Python, SQL, natural language processing, and data visualization libraries—to support internal assurance reviews, investigations, and risk research by synthesizing quantitative and qualitative data to identify trends, relationships, unexpected patterns, inconsistencies, and irregularities. Develops tools and pipelines to streamline the creation of reports, document processing, summaries, dashboards, and presentations, which are delivered to senior management to support decision-making. Designs and develops full-stack web applications—using technologies such as ReactJS for the frontend and Flask for the backend—to deliver user-friendly tools that support ERA. These tools include PDF processing applications, keyword search engines, and web scraping utilities, all aimed at enhancing efficiency, accessibility, and data-driven decision-making within the department. Extracts and analyzes complex datasets—using tools such as SQL and Python—based on direction from senior management or specified data sources. Following extraction and analysis, insights are synthesized and forwarded to senior management to inform decision-making. Where appropriate, recommendations are also developed based on the analysis, and data processing tasks are automated to improve efficiency and repeatability. Develops interactive visualizations using tools such as Power BI, Excel, and Python visualization libraries to present data-driven insights and support decision-making. Leverages artificial intelligence and machine learning models—where appropriate—to enhance assurance and risk management activities by improving accuracy, increasing efficiency, and expanding analytical capabilities. This includes automating routine tasks, detecting anomalies, and uncovering patterns in complex datasets that may not be apparent through traditional analysis. Makes recommendations to improve and complement the ERA Digital Strategy, Internal. Supports the development of qualitative reports by organizing narrative insights, synthesizing findings, and assisting in the creation of clear, structured documentation for senior managers. Creates and delivers compelling presentations to communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Keeps abreast of emerging data analytics tools and related developments. Performs other related duties as required. All related reports are reviewed by the Director, Internal Assurance. Minimum Qualifications Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Ability to think creatively and find innovative ways to present data and tell compelling stories using interactive visualizations with tools such as Power BI, Excel, and Python visualization libraries. Experience leveraging machine learning models to analyze quantitative data. Experience in data science within Internal Assurance and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), including the application of analytics, automation, and AI to support investigations, assess risk, and streamline workflows. This includes experience interpreting complex datasets, building tools to support audit and risk functions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure insights inform decision-making in alignment with institutional objectives and compliance standards. Basic understanding of Internal Assurance (IA) standards and the ability to approach problems from a risk-informed perspective. Ability to transform complex technical findings into structured, insight-driven presentations— leveraging storytelling techniques to effectively communicate key messages and drive stakeholder understanding and engagement. Applies expertise in leveraging large language models and artificial intelligence to analyze quantitative and qualitative data strictly based on information provided by senior management related to IA, ERM or Investigations content. The analysis is focused on identifying patterns, trends, and anomalies within the data, which is then prepared and delivered to senior management to support their interpretation and decision-making. This role does not involve independently interpreting findings but instead supports the process through data-driven inputs. Experience with Oracle databases and cloud platforms (e.g., Azure and AWS). Experience with frontend development using ReactJS and JavaScript and backend development using Python. Project management experience. Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills are required. Ability to work effectively with others and demonstrate respect, dignity, and integrity in all interpersonal relationships. Ability to build strong relationships throughout the organizational community. It must be innovative, dynamic, and adaptive in a fast-paced operating environment.
