Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Assistant will work as part of a dedicated team to support the day-to-day operational needs of the Finance Office. As the Financial Assistant, you will be responsible for processing various transactions on FIS; answering vendor and customer inquiries; processing expense reimbursement forms, ensuring compliance to University policies and procedures; reconciling accounts; assisting with the preparation of all documentation for reconciliation and preparing accounting forms and reports for the Director.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Applying the generally accepted accounting principles to financial tasks
- Processing expense reimbursements
- Verifying that supporting documentation is attached to financial records before processing in FIS
- Acting as the first point of contact for payroll related enquiries
- Handling sensitive and/or confidential information
- Verifying the accuracy and completeness of information
- Identifyingand resolving individual financial discrepancies
- Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
Essential Qualifications:
- Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum three years’ of recent and related financial and payroll experience, preferably in a university environment.
- Experience processing and reconciling financial, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll records.
- Experience preparing standard financial reports and maintaining financial files.
- Experience processing expense reimbursements.
- Experience maintaining databases and producing reports.
- Experience monitoring and reconciling budget and research grants.
- Advanced working knowledge of MS Office suite of products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint; Adobe Acrobat.
- Advanced working knowledge with HRIS and FIS or other related financial and payroll systems.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of databases and producing reports.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational skills and planning ability, ability to pay meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet multiple deadlines.
