JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the Manager, Live Broadcast Operations, this position is a multi-disciplined and multi-faceted role, responsible for the setup and live operation of broadcast equipment, including any or all of the following: audio mixers and supporting audio equipment; digital video player/recorders (VTR) and supporting equipment; character generators and graphics systems; cameras and supporting camera equipment; Master Control operations equipment and other production equipment for the production of television programming, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness and consistency in delivery of the broadcast product. This position specifically operates in a “relief” role to the Broadcast Department to back-fill those in any of the below designated positions in the event there is an absence due to vacation or illness; to allow for additional training for other staff, or to back-fill any other position within the department where the applicable training has been completed for that role. This position requires training in all of the following roles: Directing, Switching, Graphics, Record/Playback, Audio, Live Camera, Master Control and requires the ability to operate in any of those roles for both breeds and needs to be available to work at both the Woodbine and Woodbine Mohawk Park locations. KEY ACCOUNTABILTIES Capability to back-fill at any position at any time within both simulcast operations or in Master Control Control room operations (switching, audio, graphics, record/playback) Master Control Operations Live camera operations QUALIFICATIONS General knowledge of television production Advanced knowledge of broadcast equipment operation General knowledge of horse racing and how it applies in a broadcast environment Post-secondary diploma or certificate in television production, or equivalent experience, and production experience in a live broadcast show environment, control room and/or field production setting Volunteer or paid work experience with: a network or cable outlet, league or team broadcast or production team or any video production team Live to air broadcast decision making on-the-fly Ability to react with accurate decision making to instant/immediate live to air issues and problems and adjust accordingly As the live-to-air expert of the position they are sitting at any given time, the judgement and responsibility to solve a problem begins with them and it’s their decision whether to elevate the issue at hand Due to the multi-faceted nature of this position, Department Relief operators need to consistently think creatively and innovatively as they fill in the role they are asked to back-fill and ensure they understand exactly how the role functions, or get creative with how they can manage the role Operation of digital video recording and playback equipment as directed by production staff Video/audio router operation Intercom operation Timely routing, playback and record of video and audio signals Monitoring of incoming audio and video sources and ensuring proper signal quality and timing Video archive retrieval and storage input, including accurate data entry Operation of LED screen controls for graphics and video playback Operation of character generator and graphics equipment as directed by production staff Accurate data entry, formatting and playback Intercom operation Monitoring and control of manual and automatic on-screen data display systems Graphic and animation input and playback Understand any and all of these functions requires a concentrated mental effort Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Be Yourself.
