We have a career opportunity for a Tax Analyst who is a specialist in sales and indirect related taxes (sales taxes), and you will prepare sophisticated federal GST/HST returns and provincial sales tax returns, insurance and premium tax returns for the Aviva Canada group of insurance and non-insurance companies. As part of the Tax team, you will assist in the tax authorities’ and external audit arising from tax compliance matters. In addition, you be involved in the determination of tax provisions, monitoring sales tax continuities, ensuring accurate tax instalment computations and remittances, and preparing corresponding entries into the accounting and banking systems. What you'll do: Under the supervision of our tax experts, you will handle the sales and indirect tax compliance (in order of priority) for the Aviva Canada Group, including preparing: Federal Goods & Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) returns, elections, information forms; Provincial sales tax returns, and information forms; Excise tax returns; Insurance sales tax and premium tax returns You will assist in the sales tax submissions for the Insurance Bureau of Canada You will quantify sales tax expenses of the Aviva Group for purposes of completing sales tax instalments, remittances, reassessment and tax continuity schedules Build sales tax entries into accounting and financial systems, and balancing accounting system entries with actual payments, assessments, and reassessments Ad-hoc projects involving income and indirect taxes. What you'll bring: Post-secondary education in accounting/finance an asset Professional accounting designation or enrolment in the CPA program is an asset and helpful. 1-2 years of accounting experience (Including Co-op and Internships) Previous work experience in tax or accounting firm specialized in indirect tax (GST/HST, Provincial Sales Tax) an asset Proven track record to work autonomously with minimal direct supervision High degree of proficiency in Excel, database management, and accounting systems Strong analytical and financial modelling skills Sound written and verbal communication skills Great interpersonal skills and teamwork spirit What you’ll get: Compelling rewards package including base compensation, eligibility for annual bonus, retirement savings, share plan, health benefits, personal wellness, and volunteer opportunities.
