Position Summary:
Facilitates clinic activities by providing personal and individualized care to children and their families for the Children's Outpatient Clinic
Prepares and evaluates patient teaching material
Administers medications including intramuscular, subcutaneous, oral, topical and inhaled
Responds to patient care emergencies arising from: medications, including immunization agents, seizures, cardiac and/or respiratory emergencies
Understands and is familiar with medications for sedation, seizures and cardiac/respiratory emergencies
Assesses and intervenes appropriately for pain management
Triages Patients. Provides nursing care and monitors care as per standards. Is knowledgeable of patient condition and status upon arrival to after hours care
assesses and evaluates patient condition and communicates pertinent information to physician and other health care providers
Provides open line of communication between physician, patient, unit and parents
Key Qualifications:
Registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or currently meet the eligibility criteria to register in good standing in the Temporary Class or General Class with the CNO
3- 5 years current paediatrics nursing experience; familiar with childhood diseases and treatments
Venipuncture & IV insertion skills required
PALS certification recommended
Ability to use and operate equipment for monitoring and administering IV/medications an asset
Ability to think critically and effectively in order to prioritize needs in emergency situations
Demonstrated leadership skills combined with excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Demonstrated maturity, judgment, initiative, proficiency and prioritization skills in the delivery of patient care
Reliable and flexible individual to work as part of a diverse work team
Positive attendance and work record essential
