Your opportunity:
The Master of Financial Insurance (MFI) is a one-year, professional graduate program offered by the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto. Designed for students with strong quantitative backgrounds, the program prepares graduates for careers in insurance, pensions and asset management, risk management, consulting, fintech, and finance. The curriculum blends advanced coursework in data science, actuarial science, and mathematical finance with hands-on industry exposure through an internship, professional development workshops, and employer engagement. The MFI program bridges academic excellence with real-world relevance, producing graduates who are well-equipped to lead in the evolving interface of finance and insurance.
As the MFI, Internship and Outreach Administrator, you will report to the Manager, Graduate Programs and the Director, Administration and Finance. The incumbent maintains and enhances the successful program of student internship, enriches connections with quantitative finance industry, promotes the program and expands student recruitment and placement within North America. The incumbent provides career advice to students, as well as develops and delivers workshops.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting detailed labour market analysis to inform program and partnership development
- Developing and revising business methods that support employment services activities and objectives
- Developing communications plans to support departmental objectives
- Promoting programs at recruitment events
- Analyzing job descriptions and recommending changes to employer
- Gathering information on student performance from employers
- Writing reports on site visit findings
- Providing proactive support to individuals in distress and making referrals to specific university services
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of recent and related experience in competitive internship placements, professional graduate programs, career advising and development, student services, experiential education, experience with contracts and agreements with a proven track record of success, within Finance Industry or related field.
- Experience in building business relationships and collaborative programs, preferably within the Financial Insurance or related field.
- Experience developing and maintaining outreach to existing and prospective employer partners for recruitment, internship placements, capstone projects, and networking opportunities.
- Experience coaching and advising students on employment issues and career related matters including: job search, industry research and networking, assisting and providing feedback on application documents.
- Experience overseeing and providing senior administrative support to student programs, preferably in a University setting.
- Experience working directly in support of students or individuals in career transition; experience in a training role.
- Experience and knowledge of workplace standards, and recruitment gained through a role in internship programs.
- Experience organizing effective job search strategies and assisting with developing career plans.
- Experience with organizing eventsand workshops such as employer information sessions, panels, networking events, and alumni talks.
- Experience in maintaining outreach contact database. (eg. Access)
- Advanced computer skills in MS office. (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.
- Proven organizational, time management, problem-solving, interpersonal, and networking skills. Strong analytical, planning and business skills to identify and implement opportunities for growth.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Well-developed consultation and interpersonal skills to interface with industry experts and provide career guidance to students.
- Demonstrated interest or knowledge of finance and insurance industry or related discipline, particularly in related career opportunity and industry needs, with the ability to understand finance and insuranceterminology, employer needs, position requirements and related skill sets.
- Strong marketing skill to market and elevate the profile of MFI program and its students.
- Ability to travel within the GTA and Canada.
