Hours of Work 35 hours per week Department Roads, Parks & Forestry Location This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of the RPF Operations yard at 3330 Harvester Road. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Effective January 2026 this role will be required to be on site 50% of the time each month. Position Overview Reporting to the Manager, Parks Operations, this position is responsible for assisting with the development and administration of operational programs relating to the maintenance of the City’s roadway and park assets. You will also prepare reports, complete research, and advise on program initiatives, maintenance related standards, specifications and procedures, tender documents, bid analysis and evaluation of contractor performance. Responsibilities The Technician, Parks Operations will be responsible to: Developing and maintaining asset registries related to road, park and forestry infrastructure, including the development of preventative maintenance plans. Performing contract administration, including tendering, scheduling, monitoring work performed and paying outside contractors for services rendered. Inspecting and evaluating City assets, including generating and processing work orders. Editing and maintaining mapping in relation to a variety of maintenance tasks and validating data to ensure asset inventories are up to date. Reviewing, researching and compiling correspondence and technical reports on departmental issues. Preparing reports and presentations. Investigating and responding to customer inquiries and work orders as they relate to parks maintenance programs. Reviewing and evaluating survey plans, construction drawings, and applications that relate to departmental operations. Ensuring that all required standards established by the Ministry of Labour, OHSA, Book 7 and Corporate Health and Safety policies are followed to protect the safety of staff and customers using park facilities/ infrastructure. Participating in winter control operations as assigned. Duties and responsibilities are inclusive but not limited to the above. Requirements You have a college diploma in Horticulture, Forestry, Engineering, or a related field. GIS certificate is an asset. Along with your education, you have 2 to 3 years of related experience. Your proven technical skills are complimented by strong communication, customer service, organizational, and problem-solving skills. This position primarily works daytime hours Monday to Friday, but may be required to work occasional weekends, evenings and statutory holidays. A valid G driver’s licence is required with an acceptable driver’s abstract (no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire). This position will require occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities.
