About the Team
The Legal Counsel, Marketing & Advertising will join Wealthsimple’s Regulatory
(Reg) Team, which is a team of trailblazing legal, compliance and risk experts,
who thrive by partnering with Wealthsimple’s R&D teams to create new and
innovative products. Reg Team is defined by its creativity, resourcefulness,
hustle and determination. We are dissatisfied with the status quo and determined
to break new ground to help Canadians achieve financial freedom.

Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel and guidance on advertising and marketing campaigns,
including reviewing advertising materials for compliance with applicable laws
and regulations, and drafting and reviewing promotional or contest terms and
conditions.
- Draft and negotiate a variety of agreements related to marketing and
advertising, such as sponsorship agreements, influencer agreements and agency
agreements.
- Respond and track risk escalations and investigate possible complaints
related to advertising materials.
- Stay updated on industry trends and changes in advertising regulations, and
advise clients on best practices to ensure compliance and mitigate legal
risks.
Qualifications
- Active membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience practicing law, with a focus on advertising
and marketing law, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department
setting.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian advertising laws and regulations, including
but not limited to the Competition Act, Canadian Code of Advertising
Standards, and applicable provincial regulations.
Nice to Haves
- Familiarity with digital marketing platforms and technologies, including
social media advertising and influencer marketing.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to
effectively advise clients and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to categorize and
prioritize reviews
