The Opportunity
Rupertsland Institute is recruiting for a motivated and experienced Community Computer Lab Facilitator to support the Community Computer Lab at Rupertsland Institute. Reporting to the Senior Director of Client Services, the Community Computer Lab Facilitator will be responsible for delivering in-person and online training sessions in computer applications to adult learners. The successful candidate will lead computer courses delivered in person. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual who is community focused, passionate about education, and experienced in teaching computer software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office. This position is a great fit for someone who can create a dynamic, inclusive, and hands-on learning environment that supports the needs of adult learners from diverse backgrounds and needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up and maintain a fully functional community computer lab with all required hardware, software, knowledge and equipment.
Deliver comprehensive and accessible in person computer training tailored to the needs of the Métis community.
Facilitate sessions on Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and OneDrive.
Support digital literacy and specialized software learning based on community needs.
Design and deliver customized computer instruction tailored to the needs of the community.
Assess learner needs and adjust instructional content and delivery methods accordingly.
Provide real-time, ongoing technical support during sessions and assist with troubleshooting IT issues.
Create and maintain a safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environment for adult learners.
Collaborate with RLI teams to align training content with community needs and organizational goals.
Promote awareness of the computer lab and its services through outreach, community events, and relationship building.
Other duties as required or assigned.
Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge of adult learning principles and digital literacy instruction.
Strategic thinker with a community-first approach, grounded in cultural respect and a commitment to equity and responsible innovation.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneDrive).
Ability to simplify technical concepts for learners with varying experience levels.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking skills, with the ability to apply complex technological concepts in plain language for diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate in Indigenous, rural, or community-based technological settings, building inclusive partnerships across internal and external stakeholders.
Strong communication skills with excellent verbal, written, and listening abilities to effectively facilitate training sessions.
Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and be adaptable and flexible to changing priorities.
Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle and maintain confidentiality for sensitive or private information.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Strong sense of cultural and political sensitivity and awareness, with a genuine interest and respect for a diversity of people.
Qualifications:
Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Education, Computer Training, Adult Learning or a related field
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in delivering computer training to adults
Demonstrated experience working with diverse learners.
Experience with online training platforms such as Zoom, Teams, and other technology enhanced learning tools.
Certification in Microsoft 265 is an asset.
Experience working in Indigenous, rural, or community-based technology settings is an asset.
Other Requirements:
Ability to work a regular schedule of 8:30am-4:30pm Monday to Friday.
Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
Ability to travel throughout Alberta, as required.
Reliable transportation to and from the office.
Submission of a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check.
