The Role
We are seeking an experienced Geophysicist or Geophysical Technician to serve as a Field Crew Lead within our growing Geophysics Team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic field environments, enjoys leading small teams, and is passionate about applied geophysics in support of projects across multiple sectors.
As Crew Lead, you will be responsible for coordinating and executing field programs, ensuring data quality, safety compliance, and effective communication with project managers and technical leads. You will also mentor junior staff and contribute to the continuous improvement of field practices. Our Geophysics Team is committed to technical excellence, mentorship, and innovation, practicing internationally with a focus on Western Canada.
Responsibilities
Geophysical projects will usually include a mix of equipment preparation, field work, data processing, and interpretation.
Coordinate logistics, equipment, and personnel for field programs, including travel, accommodations, and site access.
Geophysical mapping to support the assessment of large structures such as earth fill dams, reservoirs, tailings ponds, large foundations, etc.
Geophysical surveys in support of archaeological studies.
Surface and borehole geophysical surveys in support of contaminated site characterization.
Ensure adherence to BGC’s safety protocols and field standards, including proper use of PPE and documentation of field activities
Perform equipment calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
Collect, process, and validate geophysical data in real-time to ensure quality and completeness.
Communicate daily progress, challenges, and safety updates to project leads and clients.
Mentor junior technicians and support their development through hands-on training and feedback.
Participate in cross-training opportunities and contribute to a culture of continuous learning.
Required Education, Experience & Competencies
Diploma or degree in geophysics, geotechnical engineering, earth sciences, or a related field.
Minimum 3 years of field experience in geophysical data acquisition, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role.
Proficiency with geophysical instrumentation and software.
Experience with a wide variety of geophysical methods including geoelectrical, electromagnetic, radar, borehole geophysics, seismic methods, and others.
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel extensively, including remote and rugged locations.
Eligible for TN Visa to work in the USA (preferred)
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
Familiarity with BGC’s sectors and disciplines, including mining, pipelines, transportation, energy, and communities.
First Aid and other relevant field safety certifications.
Position Requirements
Drug & Alcohol Testing
To ensure we meet our client’s compliance requirements and our workplace health and safety commitments, BGC has a drug and alcohol policy that applies to this position. The policy states that an employee may be required to take a drug and alcohol test prior to engaging in field work. This testing could be requested within an employee’s first week or in the future, as required. It is important to note that some clients also require random drug and alcohol testing, and/or testing in the event of a health and safety accident or incident.
Driver’s License
BGC requires that employees have a valid driver's license, and that employees can drive a field pickup truck. Upon hiring, BGC will require a driver’s abstract to allow for a safety review of your driving history.
Travel and Vaccination
