CNC Machine Operator – Group Leader
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm
The CNC Machine Operator – Group Leader is responsible for overseeing CNC machining operations, including developing new programs, setting up and operating equipment, and ensuring the production of high-quality parts. In addition to hands-on machining, this role provides leadership, training, and guidance to the CNC team, ensuring optimal workflow, adherence to safety standards, and continuous improvement of processes.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Coordination
Supervise, mentor, and support CNC operators, ensuring team members understand priorities, processes, and quality standards.
Coordinate daily workflow, assigning tasks and monitoring progress to meet production schedules.
Act as the primary point of contact, resolving technical or operational issues in real time.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages skill development and teamwork.
Programming & Production
Analyse technical drawings and specifications to determine production requirements.
Identify the appropriate tools and sequence of operations to produce parts efficiently.
Design CNC programs, input data into machines, and conduct simulation tests to ensure accuracy.
Set up, calibrate, and verify machine tools, ensuring proper linkage with CNC programs.
Oversee and participate in machining operations, ensuring output meets quality standards.
Perform visual and dimensional inspections of parts, ensuring adherence to engineering tolerances.
Set up and operate CNC machine and program parts using Mastercam.
Perform routine machine maintenance and upkeep.
Ensure machines are running optimally during production.
Process & Quality Management
Maintain and update machine programs and documentation to support repeatability and efficiency.
Close work orders and record production data in the ERP system.
Lead problem-solving efforts for quality or process deviations.
Support preventive maintenance and minor repairs on machinery.
Promote and enforce all safety regulations and operational procedures.
Skills & Competencies
Proven leadership ability, with experience supervising or training team members in a manufacturing environment.
Strong organisational and time-management skills to balance multiple priorities.
Advanced analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Strong knowledge of CNC programming, machining processes, and tooling selection.
Proficiency with ERP systems and basic computer applications.
Manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude.
Experience & Training
Diploma or certification as a CNC machine operator, machinist, or related field.
Minimum 3–5 years of CNC machining experience, with at least 1–2 years in a lead or supervisory role preferred.
Experience with a variety of CNC machines and programming languages (e.g., Fanuc, Haas, Siemens) is an asset.
Proficient in both English and French both oral and written. (Intermediate level of English is required).
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies is an advantage.
Proficiency in English is required for this role as approximately 20% of the responsibilities involve regular communication with stakeholders based in the United States and Europe.
