The Role Reporting to the Head of Legal, Americas, you will assist with day-to-day operations and provide legal support in in the areas of contract negotiation/management, compliance, risk management, OHS, and employment law. Key Accountabilities Provide support and advice with respect to general corporate governance, regulatory filings, and compliance with local and international laws (e.g., anti-bribery, competition law) Assist with pre- and post-closing acquisition matters and cross-border operations. Contribute to various legal matters as needed, including contracts, employment, tax, and intellectual property. Develop and deliver training programs on legal and compliance topics on an as needed basis. Monitor changes in legislation relevant to the company’s operations and ensure the timely implementation of compliance measures. Provide support with respect to a wide range of commercial contracts including, but not limited to, professional services agreements, subcontractor agreements, employment contracts, and NDAs. Provide advice regarding occupational health and safety requirements, policies, and risk management. Provide legal support with respect to investigations, audits, and disputes related to environmental or workplace safety breaches. Assist in navigating regulatory frameworks and liaise with counsel and government agencies when needed. Assist with implementation and compliance matters relating to corporate policies and procedures. Working @ SLR This is a full-time, 6-month contract, ideally based out of our Calgary or Edmonton offices with flexible working arrangements. Qualifications, Skills, and Experience: A Canadian called lawyer with 10+ years of in-house experience (US call is an asset) Corporate / commercial experience within the energy or mining sectors is preferable Experience in insurance, environmental, employment, and OHS is an asset Robust knowledge of current legal frameworks, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and compliance matters. Proven proficiency in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating diverse legal documents, including complex RFPs, contracts, commercial documents, and corporate policies. Exceptional analytical skills, sound judgment, and the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity. An unwavering commitment to internal risk management, compliance, and proactive legal strategy. Demonstrated experience cultivating and maintaining strong professional relationships to advance strategic goals of the organization.
