Role Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Marine Transportation, the Lead, Logistics Operations is directly accountable for the operational logistics management of the rail (and truck, when applicable) transportation and marine terminal for Teck Highland Valley Copper exports and Trail’s inbound concentrates Ferrous Granules and outbound refined metals shipments. This includes ensuring the timely and efficient flow of concentrates and bulk products through the day-to-day management and coordination of terminals in North America, especially Pembina Vancouver Wharves (VW), reloads, trucking companies, railroads, ocean shipping companies and other service providers meeting the needs of Trail, HVC and their customers. In particular, it is critical for Trail to be kept effectively supplied with concentrates and that HVC vessel dates are met in a timely and reliable manner.
This role will provide terminal handling oversight and supervision of operational and service coordination for about 1 million WMT of annual Teck Metals products, including 450,000 WMT per year of HVC concentrates, 550,000 WMT per year of Trail concentrates.

Key Responsibilities
Day-to-day management of VW terminal contracts and Teck movements, including the administration of contract provisions and ensuring VW meets service and other obligations; this includes management of third party use of HVC sheds and belt scale, concentrate space requirements for Trail Operations, and the optimization of the VW Berth One dock schedule for all Teck companies and vessels
Management and optimization of the Berth One dock schedule at VW to optimize the movement of Teck Metals cargoes considering SIR requirements, priority of raw materials, vessel (demurrage) and terminal costs
Operational management of all inbound/outbound rail involving VW, including optimal utilization of Teck’s concentrate railcar fleet
Operational and service level management of HVC shipments (Cu concentrate from mine site to terminal), ensuring availability of completion cargo at VW for all vessels;this includes updating the HVC inventory and shipment planning spreadsheet, blending/stockpile management to ensure shipments meet quality specifications, and working to optimize the VW Berth One schedule in support of this
Oversight of Teck’s concentrate railcar fleet to improve uptime and availability at efficient cost, including short-term and long-term fleet analysis to ensure right-sizing of fleets between operations; maintenance and repair requirements
Experience with the service and maintenance for the concentrate railcar fleet for Teck's concentrate railcar fleet
Handle railcar demurrage through effective proactive monitoring of terminal and rail performance, validating and disputing demurrage invoices on a timely basis, and identifying root causes
Continuously optimize the cost of the Company’s concentrate & bulk transportation requirements by efficient and effective analysis, administration and improvement of effective logistics systems, costs and procedures
Provide timely logistics information and advice to client groups (especially Trail Raw Materials and Highland Valley) taking into consideration all pertinent transportation policies and government regulations (including hazardous goods), and all information needed for planning and forecasting requirements
Provide timely and comprehensive reports on all significant developments, costing data, status of negotiations, projects and developing effective computer-based operational and statistical programs as required; this includes the development and maintenance of relevant KPIs and scorecards for areas of responsibility as well as key suppliers
Management and tracking of concentrates inventory
Projects and analyses as assigned by the Manager, Marine Transportation, Director, Logistics & Sales Execution and senior leadership team
Qualifications
8-10 years of proven experience in Logistics and Transportation management in an industrial context
Post-secondary qualification in Transportation & Logistics management or equivalent
CITT/P.Log. or other equivalent Logistics certification
High level of product knowledge, various modes, regulatory environment and logistics practices
Effective negotiation, analytical, interpersonal and communications skills
Strong ability to multi–task, work under deadlines and make sound critical decisions under pressure
Due to the competitive and costly nature of the business, the Lead, Logistics Operations will be "on call" 24 hours/day and 7 days/week as shipping and transportation is performed around-the-clock
