Role Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Operational Risk, the Senior Lead, Operational Risk will provide direction, support and guidance for the implementation of the operational risk management program across all Teck operations including supporting the maturity of global processes related to operational risk identification, assessment, treatment, monitoring and communication for Teck and its subsidiaries globally.
The Senior Lead works collaboratively with other members of the Enterprise Risk & Insurance function and risk practitioners across Teck operational sites to drive operational excellence in risk management to protect value and build resiliency within the organization. As a key partner to operational sites and other internal collaborators, they will promote risk awareness and a proactive risk management culture.
The successful candidate will provide Teck with strong technical expertise related to operational risk management, including the effective application of risk assessment methodologies and related risk management tools within the extractive industry or similar industrial settings.

Key Responsibilities
Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Support the achievement of Teck’s objectives by providing guidance, training, and support regarding operational risk management
Work directly with operational risk stakeholders to facilitate the identification and assessment of operational risk, and ensure the effective and consistent application of Teck’s risk management process across global operations
Support ongoing maturity and implementation of Teck’s operational risk management program including development of critical control management program, performance standards and governance processes within multiple levels of the organization
Serve as a trusted advisor and resource for all levels of leadership, from front-line teams to executives, facilitating working sessions and promoting a culture of safety and risk management
Advise and support appropriate reporting and aggregation of risk information in accordance with Teck’s risk management process
Support operating sites with development of risk treatment plans and incorporating into annual business planning processes
Design and deliver ongoing risk management training to Risk Business Partners, Risk and Control Owners, and other internal stakeholders
Support implementation and sustainment of risk management applications and be the SME for applicable risk software and platforms
Lead the full lifecycle of corporate loss control and risk engineering program across all Teck operations in support of Teck’s insurance program
Key resource to Operational Risk Business Partners and other stakeholders to support risk management with respect to technical and operational risks
Lead operational risk management initiatives and collaborate with site and regional leadership teams to ensure risk identification, evaluation, and mitigation strategies are implemented
Promote continued adherence to existing risk management policies, procedures, and standards. Identify the need for and develop new policies, procedures, and standards where appropriate
Ensure relevant policies, systems, and procedures are in place, resulting in greater risk preparedness and improved capability to respond to risk events
Provide expert guidance on risk management tools, applications, and methodologies, with particular expertise in Bowtie methodology and related software
Ensure integration of risk management process with other company tools and management systems
Promote a proactive risk management culture through increased awareness and ownership of risk throughout Teck acting as a trusted resource for multiple internal stakeholders
Flexibility to be accessible to internal customers after regular office hours for urgent matters (i.e., via cell phone, emails, etc.)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant field
8+ years of risk management experience for operating mine sites or other heavy industry (oil & gas, pulp & paper, utilities etc.) with progressive leadership experience
Experience implementing and managing software systems and complex risk management applications (e.g., SAP, BowTieXP, Enablon, Isometrix, Archer, and PHA software)
Knowledgeable with operational management systems and processes including but not limited to work management, management of change and process safety management programs
Outstanding facilitation experience within operational environments, speaking to diverse audiences of 10-40 people using a variety of risk tools
Knowledge of property loss prevention and mitigation within an industrial setting
Confirmed ability to coach and train others, from individual contributors to supervisors and leaders across the organization
Enthusiastic about continuous improvement with a willingness to assume additional responsibilities
Ability to proactively build, nurture and handle relationships with diverse internal and external parties such as vendors and contractors
Excellent attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and provide a positive attitude towards change
Advanced knowledge of risk management tools and methodologies
Demonstrated ability to influence and motivate diverse teams and individuals including peers, team members and leaders
Strong project management skills
Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, persuasive with personal efficiency

Available for domestic and international travel to operational sites up to 20% of the time
