OBJECTIVE:
Reporting to the Production Director, the Cutting Room Manager is responsible to ensure that all Cutting orders are followed to meet timely deadlines and is also responsible for the supervision of the Fusing department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the daily operations of the cutting room, ensuring that all cutting processes are completed accurately, on time, and within budget
Supervise a team of cutters and cutting room staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations
Continuously assess and improve cutting techniques and equipment to maximize efficiency, reduce waste, and improve output quality
Track KPIs for the cutting room, including productivity rates, waste levels, and material usage. Report regularly to management on progress and challenges
Coordinate with the production planning team to develop cutting schedules that align with overall production timeline
Train all new staff
Communicate with cutting contractors all relevant information needed for cutting orders.
Schedule maintenance of equipment
Purchase supplies for cutting room
Participate in union meetings as requested
Research market for new technology
Once production sample, fabrics and markers are ready, the work is planned for the spreaders in order to maximize the available equipment and machinery
Upon receipt of fabric the rolls are measured for width in order to maximize usage
Verification of lines, prints, texture, nap & grain is decided for best method of spreading fabric-face-to-face way only, facing up etc.
All other tasks as required by the company
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 5 years of experience working in a cutting room or similar production environment, with hands-on knowledge of fabric cutting, pattern making, and layout techniques
Experience managing or supervising a team, with proven ability to train and mentor staff
Familiarity with quality standards and the ability to monitor and improve cutting room processes
Experience in managing workflows, production schedules, and inventory in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of fabric types, garment construction, and industry standards in cutting and production
Strong communication skills to effectively lead and communicate with the team and upper management
Ability to manage production schedules and meet deadlines
Ensures that all cutting activities are well-organized and efficient
