Position Overview
We are seeking a talented and versatile Private Chef to join a busy household in Canmore, providing exceptional daily meals for a family of four. The ideal candidate is passionate about food, well-versed in a variety of cuisines, and capable of creating both everyday meals and elevated dining experiences.
In addition to preparing nutritious, delicious meals, the Private Chef will also support entertaining needs, from intimate family dinners to dinner parties, special events, and occasional corporate retreats hosted at the residence. This is a live-out position and requires someone who can work independently, maintain the highest standards of professionalism, and adapt to a dynamic schedule.
Salary: $90,000-$100,000
Location: Canmore, AB
Live-out position, Housing not included.
Key Responsibilities
Culinary Planning & Preparation
Create varied, seasonal, and nutrient-rich menus tailored to the family’s health goals, with a strong focus on whole, unprocessed foods.
Prepare daily meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and wholesome snacks, incorporating homemade alternatives to processed foods such as breads, crackers, and healthy baked goods.
Accommodate allergies, intolerances, and specific dietary requirements with creativity and care.
Introduce innovative recipes and culinary trends that support balanced, healthy eating while maintaining variety and enjoyment.
Design and execute elevated menus for family gatherings, dinner parties, and special events, ensuring both presentation and nutrition are prioritized.
Corporate & Event Support
Prepare occasional meals for the company’s corporate offices (approx. 40 employees per office), typically once per week, providing nutritious and well-balanced options.
Coordinate catering-style service for workplace functions, retreats, and other events hosted by the family or company.
Manage logistics for larger-scale meal prep, including planning, sourcing, and presentation.
Sourcing, Kitchen Management & Food Safety
Source the highest-quality ingredients from trusted local farms, markets, and suppliers, prioritizing organic, seasonal, and sustainable products.
Eliminate reliance on pre-packaged or processed items by preparing fresh alternatives in-house whenever possible.
Maintain a spotless, well-organized kitchen, including deep cleaning of appliances and storage areas.
Label and store food properly to ensure freshness and safety, adhering to all food safety regulations.
Manage pantry staples, supplies, and equipment inventory to ensure readiness for daily meals and larger-scale events.
Flexibility & Special Requests
Adapt menus quickly for last-minute changes in schedule or guest preferences.
Incorporate travel meal prep or accompany the family to special events and vacations (when agreed upon in advance).
Demonstrate creativity, adaptability, and professionalism in meeting the family’s and company’s evolving needs.
Requirements
Proven experience as a personal or private chef or in a related culinary role.
Strong culinary skills and knowledge of various cuisines.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
Flexibility and adaptability to meet client needs.
Culinary degree or certification required.
