Accountant Location: Toronto-661 University Department: Accounts Payable The Role: To provide support to the accounting team in the areas of accounting, and reporting services. Key Responsibilities- Maintains monthly General Ledger Balance Sheet Account reconciliations such as payroll and payable accrual accounts, fixed asset, capital accounting) under the training and guidance of the Accounting Manager. Preparing adjusting/correcting journals as well as accruals to recognize appropriate transactions in the monthly statements. Prepare analyses of journals and accruals for monthly statements. Assists in the preparation of weekly, monthly and annual cash flow reporting. Supports the Department on Year-end audit activities including collecting background materials and analyses as requested. Provides assistance to the Accounting Manager on projects related to the development and implementation of procedures, systems and practices within the Finance Department. Develops and managers working relationships with all partners, stakeholders and clients, ensuring cooperative efforts in the delivery of financial, reporting, operational and project management functions; responds to questions/requests for information, interprets policies, processes and practices; prepares, as required, briefings, presentations and statistical/ad hoc/status and/or regular reports. Other duties or projects as assigned. Knowledge and Skills- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in order to provide accounting, analyses and reporting for PHO. Knowledge of the use of computerized accounting systems (ACCPAC) and MS Office software including word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications. Oral communication and interpersonal skills to work with colleagues in the team and to interact with department managers to respond to general queries on accounting policies and processes. Written communication skills to prepare draft reports, letters, and other related materials for senior management. Education and Experience- University degree in accounting, business or finance. A professional accounting designation is required. 5 years' experience in accounting, cash flow, forecasting and banking for a large government organization. Computer proficiency using common and specialized software applications including: accounting /spreadsheet software (ACCPAC, Sage 300 and Excel), database management applications (purchase order and procurement systems). Attributes and Competencies- Works within PHO's accounting policies and standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Reviews and analyzes accounting data to identify anomalies for reconciliation of accounts against PHO's general ledger. Identifies a range of accounting issues during analyses of financial data for discussion and resolution jointly with the Team Lead and other financial staff. Strong organization and time management skills. Attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness of task completion. Self-starter and self-motivated, take initiative. Analyzes information and processes and initiates recommendations for new/revised policies and processes. Collaborates with team members and other colleagues throughout the organization.
