The Asset Management and Maintenance team is seeking an Engineering Lead, Tunnels to provide technical and risk leadership for the Transit Subway System’s high-value capital assets. The role is responsible for overseeing outsourced tunnel design and construction contracts, advising peers and senior management across the agency, and leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and contract partners to ensure safe, efficient, and standards-compliant delivery of tunnel infrastructure.
The role supports the implementation of technical Standards and audit programs for the assigned asset class discipline asset base during all phases of the asset lifecycle for high capital value asset bases and is responsible for the development of, and compliance with, technical and asset management standards, specifications and other requirements for the asset class discipline for various contractual arrangements within its assigned area of responsibility.
What will I be doing?
Assist the technical interface among the Project Delivery Teams, Technical Advisors, Delivery Partners & Sponsors to ensure seamless integration with Corridor Civil Infrastructure
Lead the development of Subway technical Standards by different parts of Organization & assessing, managing & resolving conflicts through the development & implementation of technical Standards
Provide subject matter expertise in SEM and TBM tunneling methods to ensure designs and construction approaches meet performance and safety requirements.
Review tunnel-related design submittals, technical drawings, and construction methodologies for compliance with applicable standards and requirements.
Support the review of safety cases and ensuring alignment with agency and regulatory requirements.
Participate in technical committees to keep tunnelling standards current and relevant to industry best practices.
Conduct review, approval or rejection, of deviations to standards and technical requirements, including providing approvals within the designated authority for the asset class and, ensures compliance with agency processes for deviations to the requisite standards.
Conduct technical reviews of design submittals, including for outsourced contracts, for compliance with standards and technical requirements
Responsible for maintaining & keeping Standards live & relevant to the Industry Standard
Conduct & coordinate design reviews upon request by Project Delivery Teams
Support Project Delivery Teams by providing technical inputs & responses to RFIs related to Standards during the life of a project.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
Completion of a University Degree in Engineering or related discipline
P.Eng, designation is an asset
Demonstrated experience in the asset class ,or related, engineering disciplines or a combination of design, delivery, testing and commissioning.
Proficient in the assigned area of the engineering discipline to be able to serve as subject matter expert (SME) representative in the assigned asset class discipline designation
In-depth knowledge of SEM and TBM excavation techniques.
Knowledgeable in and able to deploy project management principles and practices, including schedule controls and monitoring, review and reporting on overall progress and performance.
Proficient in change and risk management and assessment initiatives to be able to support the team and make timely decisions to manage schedule and reputational risk and address issues.
Proficient in the development, selection and communication of metrics and performance results through the regular reporting of information, reports, and key performance indicators (KPIs) required to make well-informed business decisions in all aspects of the asset class functions performance.
Working Conditions:
Position is required to be available outside of regular office hours to maintain business relationships and address issues as they arise
Works a standard 36.25 hr. work week within an office environment. Occasionally required to work nights and weekends to visit construction sites and public meetings.
