Hybrid role - 3 days in office - please note that this position can also be filled in any of our offices across Canada Reporting directly to the Financial Accounting Director, the Senior Taxation Manager is responsible for leading and managing the tax compliance of Norton Rose Fulbright Canada. The candidate is required to be an expert in sales tax for all Canadian provinces, and a subject matter lead for partnership tax, T-3, T-5 and some corporate tax activities. A strong communicator and team player, he will also support the Partnership Office. The key responsibilities of the position are outlined below: You will be focusing on: Assist with all retail tax filing in all provinces where the firm has a permanent establishment and for all legal entities associated with the Firm, including various partnerships, trusts and corporations. Responsible for the implementation and enforcement of tax policies and procedures, to ensure best practices. Review complex mandate-specific and out-of-country mandate tax forms to ensure that taxes are accurately calculated, in accordance with provincial sales tax requirements. Act as a subject matter expert on all tax issues and inquiries. Provide a high level of customer service and timely response to requests from partners and professional services staff. Advise management on tax consequences during the decision-making process. Conduct tax research and prepare memorandums outlining findings and conclusions. Support the Partnership Office in all tax matters. Manage external tax audit processes. Participate in sales tax accounting projects as required, maintaining the integrity of retail sales tax rates and vendor input tax credits in SAP tables. Communicate with CRA, provincial tax authorities and external tax experts regarding retail sales tax matters or any other tax matters. Train and educate staff on retail sales tax matters. Prepare annual tax returns for all legal entities. Review the preparation of Statement of Partnership Income (T-5013 and RL15) on an annual basis. Assist the trust team to put in place process and control for T-3 and T-5. What you bring to the role: Bachelor’s degree in accounting with a CPA designation. Tax training (In Depth GST/HST Program). Certification in tax an asset. Minimum of 8-12 years of some tax experience gained in a professional or legal services environment. Experience preparing and filing of retail sales tax returns and related forms, and responding to inquiries from tax authorities across Canada, Highly detail-oriented with the ability to work with time-sensitive and confidential information. Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain good relationships with partners and related internal/external groups. Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to prioritize work in a demanding environment. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Track record of providing effective advice to executive leadership. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SAP knowledge an asset.
