Vertex is currently accepting applications for full-time 3rd or 4th Year Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic located in Kola, MB. The successful candidate will provide maintenance for Vertex’s equipment. This position will work with semi-trucks and trailers.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Heavy Duty Apprentice Mechanic
3-4 years’ experience as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic is an asset
Class 5 License with a clean drivers’ abstract
Must hold current and up to date first-aid and H2S alive safety certificates or willing to obtain
Experience with or knowledge of hydraulic and diesel engine repairs
Ability to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner
Ability to work independently while managing time and productivity
Must be in good health and physical condition to perform duties
Successful candidates will demonstrate integrity and reliability
A valid class 1 or 3 drivers’ license is considered an asset
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, and repairs on heavy equipment
Troubleshooting damaged industrial vehicles by inspecting hoses, fuel lines, fuel injector failure, coolant related issues, wiring and light problems, air leaks, clutch and transmission repairs, wheels, brake and steering components etc.
Completing repairs or refurbishing damaged components of a vehicle such as transmissions and clutch replacements, alternators, steering components, air leaks / fittings, and brake shoes etc.
Operating hand power tools such as impact wrenches, torque wrenches, and drills
Lifting and carrying hydraulic pumps, vehicle seats, hosing, brake pots, and links of chain
Completing two-person lifts when handling brake shoes or vehicle seats
Completing “live” troubleshooting on damaged vehicles by operating them in order to identify the root cause of a malfunction
Determine and document required repairs
Prepare work orders/cost estimates for service approval
Perform testing and inspection to ensure repairs are complete and in compliance with manufacture specifications and government regulations and standards
Complete required documentation and reporting for inspections and repairs
Provide troubleshooting, course of action for emergency repairs
Conduct all job responsibilities in accordance with Vertex HSE standards, guidelines, and rules
