Position Overview – Medical Director, Carewest
The Medical Director for Carewest is responsible for overseeing and enhancing
the quality of medical care delivered in Carewest facilities and programs. This
role involves providing clinical leadership, ensuring compliance with medical
standards, and promoting best practices in patient care.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
- Clinical Leadership:
-Provide clinical oversight and leadership for all medical staff within the
continuing care, post-acute and community-based programs.
-Foster a collaborative environment among physicians, leaders, nursing staff,
and allied health professionals.
- Patient Care Quality:
-Develop and implement evidence-based clinical protocols to improve patient
outcomes.
-Monitor patient care practices and outcomes, ensuring adherence to established
standards and guidelines.
- Strategic Planning:
-Contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic plan.
-Identify opportunities for quality improvement and program development.
- Compliance and Standards:
-Ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations, accreditation
standards, and organizational policies.
- Participate in quality assurance and risk management initiatives.
- Education and Training:
- Provide ongoing education and training to staff, physicians and leaders on
best practices and emerging trends in continuing care, post-acute and relevant
community-based programs
-Mentor and support the professional development of medical staff.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
-Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and address
complex needs.
-Engage stakeholders, including families and community partners, to facilitate
holistic care approaches.
- Policy and Procedure Development:
-Develop and update clinical policies and procedures in alignment with standards
of care.
- Review and revise protocols based on current evidence and best practices.
- Research and Innovation:
-Encourage and participate in clinical research initiatives to advance knowledge
in continuing care, post-acute and community-based settings.
-Evaluate new technologies and treatment modalities for potential application.
- Recruitment, retention, and Supervision:
-Oversee physician recruitment and succession planning and support medical
staff.
-Investigate client or clinical care complaints which concern physician behavior
or practice

Experience, Skills & Competencies
Minimum of 5 years experience in clinical practice with a focus on Care of the
Elderly or continuing care or post acute care. Experience in a leadership or
administrative role is highly desirable. Compassionate and patient-centered
approach to care and leadership.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict
resolution and a passion for quality and patient safety. They will be an
inclusive and visionary leader with significant experience in medical leadership
and is considered a strong clinician by peers. They demonstrate exceptional
analytical and problem-solving abilities, work collaboratively in a
team-oriented environment, and drive for continuous improvement and innovation
in healthcare.
