About the role We’re looking for a Senior Underwriter, Trade Credit, to join our growing and dynamic team! As a Senior Underwriter in the Trade Credit team, your work will have a big impact. This role offers a unique variety of underwriting and learning opportunities. Your role will include mentoring other underwriters, working with strategic clients in multiple sectors across Canada, participating in important strategic projects and audit initiatives, and working closely with our corporate colleagues on complex and prominent accounts. People will count on you to provide technical expertise and to ensure a consistent application of underwriting guidelines. They will also come to you for your knowledge of the market, your understanding of emerging trends and risks, and guidance on underwriting for sustainable, profitable growth. You will also be called upon to support the management team in their analysis with respect to operational performance indicators. What you’ll do here: Provide underwriting training, lending expertise to colleagues. Support day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives to achieve profitable growth targets. Gather market intelligence by working directly with management, brokers, and customers. Showcase Intact’s product offering through sound technical proficiency & ability to initiate and close new business opportunities. Collaborate with internal teams to explore organizational knowledge and expertise that can be used to drive growth and develop new opportunities across product lines. Make recommendations to improve group operations and efficiencies. Gain and expand upon industry knowledge to improve underwriting decisions. Obtain and analyze underwriting data, perform financial analysis and apply critical thinking on underwriting decisions and client relationship issues. Negotiate specific terms and conditions for both new business and renewals. What you bring to the table: Minimum of 5 years Trade Credit or equivalent financial sector experience. Demonstrated proficiency in financial analysis and the trade credit insurance product. Highly organized, with the ability to work towards goals while adapting to change in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills, including the ability to persuade as well as respectfully challenge others. Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with national departmental teams. Effective analytical, negotiating, and decision-making skills. Ability to work well under tight deadlines, including organizational and time management skills. High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability. Demonstrated capability for outstanding customer service. University Degree is a must and MBA, CFA, or CPA designation is an asset. Bilingual in French and English an asset. Willing to travel on occasion. Proven track record for quick, accurate problem resolution.
