POSITION SUMMARY:
The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a regulated health care professional who adheres to and models the Standards and Guidelines of the College of Nurses of Ontario; the SJHH mission, vision and values, policies and procedures; and applicable specialty standards. The RPN provides patient/client-centred and evidence informed care to promote health and assess the need for the provision of care and the treatment of health conditions by supportive, preventative, therapeutic, palliative and rehabilitation means in order to attain or maintain optimal patient/client function. The RPN collaborates with the inter-professional team in the delivery of a full range of care and treatment to patient/clients.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Current registration with the College of Nurse of Ontario required.
•Education in one of the below categories is required:
a) Practical Nursing Diploma from an accredited Community College program with evidence of IV medication administration as part of the basic educational curriculum.
b) Practical Nursing Diploma from an accredited Community College program and IV medication administration certificate from an accredited Community College program if not included in basic diploma curriculum.
c) Practical Nursing Certificate from an accredited Community College program, a medication administration certificate and an IV medication certificate from an accredited Community College program
•Minimum of 2-years current surgical/medical clinical experience required
•Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
•Demonstrated ability to function to the full scope of nursing practice per the College of Nurse of Ontario.
•Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with patients/clients, families and other members of the health care team.
•Demonstrated ability to set priorities and organize work in response to client/patient needs.
•Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement
•Basic skill level with computers, MS Word, Internet searches, data entry and patient information systems
•Participation and successful completion of 9 week in house Peri-operative Certificate Program.
•RPNAO or other professional association membership preferred
•Good attendance
Specific Requirements:
Applicants must successfully complete internship offered by St. Joseph's Healthcare in collaboration with Mohawk College.
HOURS OF WORK:
Full time hours required during the internship period and clinical orientation for approximately 22 weeks. Hours of work will include rotating shifts. Shifts vary from 7.5 to 10 hours and include weekends, evenings and nights, holidays and on-call.
Upon completion will transfer to a part time position. Shifts vary from 7.5 to 10 hours and include weekends, evenings and nights, holidays and on-call.
WAGE RATE: $35.12....$36.64....$38.16 (plus 14% in lieu of benefits)
