Reporting to the Support Services Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the shops and labs within the School of Construction by coordinating purchasing activities. This includes managing supply requests, sourcing material quotes, and ensuring timely and accurate procurement to support academic and operational needs.

The Role
Purchasing & Supply Coordination
Order parts and equipment by phone or online, obtain competitive quotes from vendors, ensuring best prices are obtained and delivery is timely
Process supply orders for Academic Chairs and Faculty for Class/Lab supplies via Purchasing card, entry of purchase requisitions
Receives incoming supplies, checks against invoices or purchase orders, and places in storage or ensures they are handed off to the correct personnel/department
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors
Address and resolve any issues related to stock quality, delivery schedules, or pricing
Identify and evaluate suppliers to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness
Negotiate prices, terms, and conditions with suppliers and place orders accordingly
Review and process purchase orders and invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies
Reconciles monthly credit card statements and applies accounting codes to the purchases for finance allocation
Ensure all inventory and purchasing documents are accurately maintained and readily accessible
Provide monthly financial reporting for individual programs and Academic Chairs
Coordinate with the Purchasing team for support and coverage needs
Work in close partnership with Finance and cross functional SAIT teams
Assist with other duties that support the School of Construction
Equipment & Tool Maintenance
Assist with sending dysfunctional equipment and tools for repair as needed (and based on cost estimate)
May operate motorized equipment (i.e. forklift/skid steers) to unload deliveries
Assist with delivering materials to various locations
Assist Lab Techs with various duties (i.e. packaging, shipping coordination out of the school)
Occasional support moving, loading or unloading equipment of supplies and building materials
Qualifications
Required
Post-secondary education in procurement, finance, or related field
3 years related experience in warehouse, purchasing and reconciliation, or similar
Class 5 driver’s license is required
Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered
Preferred
Customer service related experience
Forklift operator certificate
Trained in first aid, CPR or WHMIS
Knowledge & Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Strong ability to work independently, managing tasks efficiently with minimal supervision
Proven team player with a collaborative mindset and willingness to share knowledge
Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal
Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges
A general knowledge of construction trades and technologies is an asset
