Catholic Social Services is currently recruiting for a contract (40 hours/week), Settlement Counsellor in Red Deer.
This is a temporary position.
Job Summary:
We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Settlement Counselor to support Government-Assisted Refugees as they begin their resettlement journey in Canada. This role involves direct client support and coordination of services to ensure that newly arrived refugees receive the tools and guidance they need to successfully integrate into their new community.
Job Duties:
Provide individualized settlement support to GAR clients upon arrival and throughout their first year in Canada.
Conduct needs assessments and develop personalized settlement plans in collaboration with clients.
Assist clients in accessing essential services including health care, financial supports, housing, and employment.
Offer orientation on Canadian laws, rights and responsibilities, public systems, and local community resources.
Ensure clear and culturally sensitive communication.
Coordinate with community agencies, health providers, schools, and landlords to ensure wraparound client support.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation and reports as required by funders and internal systems.
Participate in GAR arrival planning, temporary accommodation coordination, and initial needs response.
Support clients with trauma-informed care and referrals to mental health services when necessary.
Contribute to program development and team initiatives to improve service delivery.
What This Job Requires:
Diploma or degree in Human Services/Social Sciences/Social Work or equivalent
2 years of experience working with newcomers to Canada
Proficient with computer software including Microsoft Office and have the ability to learn new programs
Certification through AAISA is considered an asset
Clear and Current Drivers Abstract
A vehicle and valid class 5 driver's license – requirement to transport clients in your personal vehicle
Proof of Vehicle Insurance showing $2 million liability coverage
Proof of Vehicle Registration for insured vehicle
Vulnerable Sector Check from local RCMP or city police detachment
Child Intervention Record Check
