Position Summary
Acuren Group is actively seeking a Chemical Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Materials EIT, or P.Eng. to join our Engineering Department in the Calgary, AB laboratory. This is a temporary role to cover a leave of absence (approximately 2 months, with the possibility of extension).
In this role, you will support laboratory testing, technical investigations, and engineering analysis across a variety of industrial applications. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will gain exposure to corrosion testing, failure analysis, and industry-leading laboratory techniques.
This position is well-suited to individuals eager to develop their technical expertise in a dynamic, hands-on industrial environment that fosters professional growth, collaboration, and continuous learning. For qualified P.Eng. candidates, additional responsibilities and opportunities to lead investigations may be assigned.

Responsibilities
Plan and carry out sour gas corrosion testing in accordance with industry standards (e.g., NACE TM0177, TM0284, TM0316) using established procedures, or assist in developing new approaches under supervision.
Perform engineering design and analysis for manufactured products, welded, cast, and heat-treated components, as well as pressure vessels, pipelines, tanks, tubing, valves, shafts, and other industrial equipment.
Conduct technical investigations, including evidence gathering, data analysis, and preparation of clear, concise technical reports.
Support laboratory assessment techniques such as optical microscopy, fractography, hardness testing, image analysis, metallography, and chemical analysis.
Ensure laboratory practices, calibration records, and quality documentation are maintained in compliance with industry standards.
Stay current with applicable industry standards and contribute to continuous improvement of testing procedures and methods.
Collaborate with clients and field staff to understand project requirements and ensure deliverables meet expectations.
Mentor and support junior staff and technologists, contributing to knowledge transfer and skill development.
Identify opportunities for new services, technologies, and value-added solutions that support client needs.
Participate in meetings with clients to review findings, recommendations, and conclusions.
Ensure work is delivered efficiently, within budget, and on schedule.
For candidates licensed as P.Eng.: Additional responsibilities may include leading complex technical investigations, providing expert recommendations on serviceability and repairs, developing engineered solutions for chronic problems, and acting as a subject matter expert for legal or insurance cases involving materials failures.
Requirements
A university degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Eligibility for membership in the applicable provincial association (e.g., APEGA) as an Engineer-in-Training; licensure as a P.Eng. will be considered a strong asset.
Experience or knowledge in corrosion testing (particularly NACE TM0177, TM0316, and/or TM0284) is a strong asset.
Prior experience with ASTM mechanical and corrosion test methods is considered an asset.
Familiarity with industry codes and standards related to materials, welding, and pressure equipment.
Strong understanding of engineering theories, principles, and practices, with the ability to translate knowledge into practical solutions.
Ability to analyze and manage large amounts of technical data effectively.
Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to resolve issues and problems that are not clearly defined.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare professional technical reports and interact effectively with clients and colleagues.
Proficiency in MS Office programs and general computer literacy.
H2S Alive certification is considered a strong asset.
