About the Role:
Corus Entertainment is seeking a dynamic and innovative professional to join the Broadcast Operations team at our Toronto location as a Broadcast Network Monitoring Operator.
Reporting to the Manager, Technology and Workflows, the Broadcast Network Monitoring Operator is part of team that ensures Corus’ broadcast signals are present for over-the-air (OTA) and cable/satellite (BDU) viewers across the country, and maintains revenue by ensuring simultaneous substitutions with US networks are in place. The BNM team is also the communication hub for the internal fibre network connecting all of Corus’ news production centres together. The team works extensively with various internal departments and external clients, maintaining a high level of customer service while meeting strict deadlines in a 24/7/365 signal monitoring environment.
You will contribute by:
Monitoring all return signals of networks originating from Corus for quality, signal integrity and regulatory compliance
Monitoring fibre connectivity within the Corus broadcast and news production footprint
Escalating issues in a 24/7/365 broadcast and news environment for outages pertaining to fibre connectivity and all networks originating from Corus
Confirming simultaneous substitutions of US network content and communicating information and issues to BDUs in a professional and timely manner
Accurately creating and compiling reports detailing the statuses of all broadcast networks
Acquiring working knowledge of, and becoming proficient in, various technical systems and platforms
Gaining a firm understanding of broadcast operations technology, workflows and fibre networks to troubleshoot, solve and escalate issues
Following existing departmental procedures, workflows, and documentation
Liaising with and properly escalating information to internal teams and external clients to mitigate and resolve technical issues to ensure a seamless, uninterrupted customer viewing experience
Providing updates and support in a 24/7/365 broadcast and news environment for Corus’ fibre network and all networks originating from Corus
Staying current with equipment, workflows and procedural changes required to perform tasks
Skills and experience you will bring:
Diploma or degree in broadcasting, communications, media or other technology fields or equivalent experience
A good understanding of video/audio technical standards, cable TV, OTA, satellite (DTH) and IPTV distribution platforms in order to troubleshoot and escalate signal problems
Experience with broadcast transmission chains, fibre networks, video platforms and associated systems
Proficiency in computer skills – Microsoft Office suite and other integrated applications and communication tools
