Job Scope
As a Manufacturing Engineer – Controls and Automation, you will lead the design, integration, and optimization of control systems across our production lines. You’ll collaborate with engineering, IT, and operations teams to ensure seamless, secure, and efficient manufacturing processes.
Core Functions
Design and program PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and motion controllers
Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues to minimize downtime
Integrate new technologies into existing systems to enhance performance
Conduct system testing and validation to meet safety and compliance standards
Analyze manufacturing data to identify trends and drive improvements
Collaborate with IT to ensure secure and efficient system integration
Lead upgrades and commissioning of control and information systems
Develop and enforce cybersecurity protocols for control networks
Train maintenance staff and operators on new systems and best practices
Work Environment & Collaboration
Partner with cross-functional teams including production, maintenance, and IT
Support plant utilities optimization (Power, HVAC, Compressed Air, etc.)
Ensure compliance with electrical and safety standards (CSA, UL, NEC, ANSI)
Maintain detailed documentation and support continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, or related field
5+ years in automation and controls within manufacturing
Expertise in PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, VFDs, and motion control systems
Strong understanding of electrical infrastructure and safety standards
Experience with system testing, validation, and project execution
Excellent communication and leadership skills

Project Management: Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery, clear communication, and effective prioritization of tasks.
Influence & Indirect Leadership: Ability to lead without formal authority by building trust, inspiring others, and driving initiatives forward through influence and strategic relationship-building.
Floor Presence: Must maintain a consistent and visible presence on the floor to support team engagement, observe operations firsthand, and provide real-time feedback and guidance.
Preferred Experience
Knowledge of Industry 4.0 and data historian platforms (e.g., Wonderware, Aspen IP21)
Programming experience (Python, C, SQL) and database management
Familiarity with AutoCAD and IT networking (LAN/WLAN)
Previous leadership in engineering or project management
