Gain valuable experience as a student for our Corporate Development group working in Risk Management. Risk Management involves analyzing and minimizing a corporation’s exposure to risk while conserving its human, financial, and physical assets through insurance and/or through contractual transfer of risk. In this role, you will develop an understanding of Risk Management principles and their application to protecting property, personnel, income, reputation, and the environment. Since risk and risk management touch every aspect of the business, you will develop a broad understanding of the company’s operations and geographical areas, and will liaise with multiple business units, including supply management, marketing, operations, engineering, and legal.
You will develop your skills and add value while also having the chance to meet other students and partake in initiatives such as the Student Social Committee!
Job location: Calgary, AB – Head Office
Shift schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours/day (Monday – Friday)
Term length: 8 months
Term start: January 2026

Key Accountabilities:
Learn about the typical insurance products used by Canadian Natural and its business partners
Learn about Canada’s oil and gas industry, and all aspects of Canadian Natural’s business, including thermal, conventional and oil sands operations
Develop a thorough understanding of the contractual language regarding liability and insurance in Canadian Natural’s standard contracts
Identify commonly-disputed areas within the insurance provisions of Canadian Natural’s standard contracts
With supervision, answer questions from various business units regarding risk and Canadian Natural’s contractual language
Maintain a log of common contractual insurance requests and responses, together with the rationale for such responses
Liaise with business units to collect and compile relevant business data for use in insurance submissions and presentations
Assist in developing presentations for internal training or for presenting to insurers.
Undertake competitive intelligence, including by understanding and summarizing loss incidents at peer group companies
Learn how to request Certificates of Insurance; request and log these as appropriate
Collect and compile information about the company’s insurance partners
Update internal insurance documentation
As needed, work with business units to compile and assess loss data
Other ad hoc projects, as required
What You Bring to The Role:
Currently enrolled in:
Your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of an undergraduate degree with a focus in Commerce, Economics, Finance, Business, Law, or Political Science
Your 1st or 2nd year of an LLB or JD
Other relevant degrees will be considered
Highly organized and efficient
Able to produce high-quality written work
Skilled at communicating, interacting, and relating with others
Strong logical reasoning and analytical thinking skills
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
Able to work independently or in a team environment, as required
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
