The VP, Clinical Learning is a strategic leader responsible for advancing clinical excellence and veterinary development across the network. Reporting to the Chief People Officer and in close partnership with Medical Leadership, Operations, and Support Office teams, the VP, Clinical Learning designs and delivers high-impact learning strategies that align with clinical priorities and evolving patient needs. They drive the development of scalable programs that support onboarding, skill advancement, and medical leadership, while ensuring consistency in care and confidence across diverse practice settings.
With a strong focus on clinical quality, engagement, and retention, the VP, Clinical Learning plays a critical role in delivering on our strategic pillars - More Patients, More Complete Care, Inspire Our People, and Build a Stronger Network Together - by building the capabilities of our medical teams, supporting high standards of care, and creating clear pathways for veterinary success.
Accountabilities
Leadership Accountability
Clinical Excellence: Support high-quality medicine through alignment and routines
Upskilling & Capability Building: Identify and address skill gaps across the veterinary population using tools like skill matrices and referral data. Develop learning solutions that elevate standards of care and support quality improvement in key clinical domains.
Standardization & Best Practices: Ensure learning content reflects current evidence-based practices, clinical SOPs, and regulatory standards. Promote consistency in care delivery through accessible, repeatable learning experiences tailored to diverse practice types.
Leading Our People: Attract, develop, and retain strong local teams
Medical Talent Growth & Engagement: Build clear development pathways for veterinarians across all career stages - from new grads to experienced clinicians and emerging leaders. Partner with Medical Leadership and Operations to ensure programs drive retention, engagement, and a strong sense of purpose.
Team Leadership & Collaboration: Lead and develop a high-performing team of clinical learning professionals. Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with Medical Directors, RMDs, and Support Office stakeholders to ensure aligned, high-quality delivery.
Exceptional Client Care: Deliver a seamless, compassionate client experience
Client-Centered Clinical Communication: Develop learning programs that enhance communication, client education, and decision-making skills. Empower veterinarians to build trust with pet owners and deliver exceptional client experiences through better understanding and connection.
Leading the Business: Drive operational efficiency, growth, and consistency
Clinical Learning Strategy & Execution: Design and deliver a scalable clinical learning strategy that aligns with medical priorities, improves practice performance, and supports organizational growth. Ensure learning programs are measurable, relevant, and integrated into broader enterprise initiatives.
Financial Management: Manage to budget, optimize performance drivers
Learning Operations & Efficiency: Manage clinical learning operations, including budgets, platforms, vendor partnerships, and CE investments. Drive adoption of self-directed and digital learning to maximize reach, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness.
Outcomes & Impact Measurement: Define and track success metrics for clinical learning initiatives. Leverage data to demonstrate value, optimize program effectiveness, and inform continuous improvement.
Success Metrics
Success in this role is measured by outcomes that reflect strong leadership, operational performance, and alignment with our strategic priorities. While metrics may evolve over time, key indicators of success include:
% of veterinarians completing onboarding and clinical development programs
Improvement in clinical skill distribution and reduced service leakage
Retention and satisfaction of veterinarians within the first 24 months
Positive impact on KPIs tied to clinical care (e.g., compliance, revenue mix, patient outcomes)
Program engagement, NPS, and quality ratings from clinicians and medical leaders
Experience Profile
DVM or equivalent; licensed or eligible to practice veterinary medicine in Canada
7-10+ years of veterinary practice experience, with proven clinical credibility and team leadership
5+ years in clinical education or learning & development, preferably in a healthcare or veterinary setting
Demonstrated experience mentoring veterinarians and supporting growth across career stages
Skilled in designing and delivering adult learning using digital, in-person, and experiential formats
Proficient in LMS platforms, instructional design tools, and CE program management
Strong strategic thinking and execution ability; connects learning to clinical and business outcomes
Experience leading cross-functional initiatives in a fast-paced organization
Known for collaborative, credible leadership that influences across medical, operational, and support teams
Comfortable using data and feedback to drive continuous improvement in programs and learner experience
