Your opportunity:
The Advancement team generates private-sector revenue to support the Faculty and its academic priorities. Through a range of programs and special initiatives, we raise awareness among current and prospective donors and volunteers regarding the importance of investing in the Faculty. Our office engages in cultivating and sustaining strong relationships with all stakeholders, including our accomplished alumni who are located in more than 190 countries.
Reporting to the Director of Operations & Advancement Services, this position actively supports the Arts & Science major gifts team in identifying, cultivating and stewarding major gift donors.
The Development Associate will work in the Advancement Office in the Faculty of Arts & Science and be responsible for the highly efficient coordination, administration and support of multiple areas of development work.
The Development Associate will undertake a range of assigned duties and projects within a fast-paced, academic environment. They will be responsible for: creating correspondence, information packages and mailings; supporting thegift agreement process; database support; monitoring pledge payments and processing gifts; administering pledge reminders and pending installments; fund set-up; creating summary sheets and award records; producing and disseminating reports; fulfilling donor stewardship requirements; researching and gathering information for prospect discovery and cultivation; scheduling meetings; and supporting events. This position will support the frontline major gift officers and leadership with a high level of initiative, tact and diplomacy, quality control, attention to detail and confidentiality. The Development Associate will liaise with divisional contacts throughout the University, Arts and Science faculty members and staff, the alumni constituency, donors and senior level volunteers and the community. The incumbent will be responsible for gathering content from academic units, and preparing strategic reports and briefings.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Fostering positive relationships with prospective and existing donors
- Assessing needs and contributing to the development and implementation of plans for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition
- Providing detailed information for the development of donor relations and stewardship programs
- Generating reports to track fundraising progress against campaign goals
- Collecting basic development-related information
- Writing briefing notes, solicitation plans and call reports to track donor interaction
- Updating prospect databases and portfolios
- Collecting and passing on donation and payment information for processing
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and knowledge of development principles and practices, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three (3) years of related and recent experience in providing fundraising support to a group of development officers.
- Experience in philanthropy and in other fundraising environments.
- Experience with fundraising database ARBOR or related database required.
- Experience writing fundraising reports for donors and internal audiences.
- Experience in conducting basic development-related research.
- Experience preparing reports from multiple data sources.
- Experience creating donor correspondence from non-template documents.
- Experience fulfilling donor stewardship requirements.
- Experience maintaining both electronic and paper files for multiple team members.
- Demonstrated advanced computer proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), database and fundraising software, and email.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced problem solving, organizational and time management skills.
- Superior accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to set priorities and targets and to meet deadlines in relation to frequently changing demands.
