The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in Behavioural Health, is a registered nurse in the extended class (Nurse Practitioner –Adult) from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)with the advanced education and specialized skills/ knowledge to provide clinical care grounded in evidence based standards for the hospitalized patients in the Behavioural Health, St Peters Hospital. The Nurse Practitioner works autonomously, and in a collaborative practice model with the physicians from the Behavioural Health unit and/or physicians within the St Peters site, and in consultation/ collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, and with consultants according to their professional, ethical and legal standards outlined by the CNO. The components of the APN role include: Clinical Practice, Education, Research, Consultation, Leadership and Professional Development.
- Current Certification of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse, Extended Class with Nurse Practitioner (Adult)
- Master’s Degree in Nursing and/or equivalent graduate Degree
- Minimum of five (5) years recent clinical experience supporting a population of acute medical /surgical patients; gerontology background preferred
- Demonstrated experience in research and program development
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and competency to work within interprofessional teams
- Demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated ability to promote professional development in nursing
- Eligible for Faculty appointment with McMaster University
